I met Bob Dole once. In 1977 at a Young Americans for Freedom convention in New York City.

I asked him for an autograph, and he very graciously provided one. Except he asked me to hold his arm up for him. I had no idea at the time he was physically handicapped from a WWII injury he received in the Italian Alps. That's why whenever you saw him on TV, he had a pen in his hand to conceal his injury.

So I held his arm. MORTIFIED! Me, a kid, holding a Vice President's arm so he can give me an autograph!

He was very, very nice.

His demeanor and expression reminded me of the White House Correspondent's Dinner in 2011 when he sat and glared at Obama at the podium. Exactly the same.
