I don't know about your (and I mean plural you, since you use the imperial, or perhaps hive-mind "we") reality, but in mine, the $500M fine was dismissed. If NY wants to impose a new fine, then a new trial will be needed.

Seeing as Letitia James has her own criminal mortgage investigation to worry about, I don't see that as likely.

A State Court can't put a sitting POTUS on Trial for any reason.

He blasted her use of Section 63(12) of New York’s Executive Law, which gives the state attorney general broad power to pursue civil fraud claims.

Friedman wrote that it was unprecedented and political, giving James "essentially limitless power to prosecute her political enemies."

He said Trump’s business deals involved sophisticated parties who profited without harming the public and concluded he would "reverse the judgment and dismiss the complaint."

Only the fines involved in the alleged fraud apply. They ruled the excessive silliness imposed violated the 8th amendment. That will not be revisited, going forward will likely see the rest of that sham shitshow tossed as well.

It didn't stop him because no law prevents felons from holding federal office. Some laws are supposed to keep them off military installations, but Trump changed all that, and now they can. This thread is not about Trump breaking federal law, but state law.
