Poll -- Most MAGA Voters Support The Democrats' Key Government Shutdown Demand Regarding Obamacare Health Care Subsidies

The subsidies have made Obamacare more affordable for millions of Americans...including millions of grateful MAGA voters.

That is the answer to your question.
I don't think anyone is against helping others, its how you do it. ACA was passed that gave sunsidies to people for healthcare, then covid came and there were new tax credits that they want to make permanent. Ok, so let's say they do, how long til the next thing that comes along that they will increase the subsidies for, and then fight to make them permanent. Meanwhile, doctors and hospitals aren't charging less. We're just throwing more money at it, and they doctors raise their prices because they know they have government money coming in.

We need to work on finding ways to make Healthcare LESS expensive. The government subsidizing it only makes it mkre expensive.

Prices for doctors and hospitals have lagged general inflation.

MAGAs are...especially if they are minorities or people with dark skin.

That's why Trump and Musk sentenced millions of people to death overseas by ending USAID.

**** that. Trump has been saying since 2017 that he is going to come up with something better than Obamacare.

Trump needs to do it or just shut the **** up.

That graph is from 2010.

Look at the out of pocket expenses and total national Healthcare expenditures.

Nope.

That's why Trump and Musk sentenced millions of people to death overseas by ending USAID.

They ended USAID because of the problems with it.

You'd think, as a democrat, you'd be happy that we still have ACA. Granted, it isnt working, otherwise we wouldn't need new tax credits.

That graph is from 2010.

It tracks prices in the ACA era (2010-present).

Look at the out of pocket expenses and total national Healthcare expenditures.

The relevant graphic in that link is of national health expenditures as a percentage of GDP (“the cost curve”), which have been flat since 2010, other than a transient COVID spike. During the ACA period, health care costs did not grow faster than the rest of the economy, which is quite rare historically.

Why are you comparing the Healthcare costs to the rise of inflation or as a percent of GDP. Those are irrelevant. Healthcare costs keep going up, which means doctors and hospitals are steadily increasing prices. As long as the government keeps backing up dump trucks of cash to them, they'll keep taking it.

Because that’s the only meaningful way to quantify costs. Nominal numbers tell you nothing. The price of a TV is higher in nominal dollars today than it was in 1950, but a TV certainly doesn’t cost more today. It, of course, costs vastly less.

If premiums remain constant in nominal dollars for seven years to (as they have, for instance, in the ACA marketplaces) while incomes and the price level of the economy have rise 30% over that interval, the cost of those premiums has not remained constant, it has fallen.

If health care prices rise more slowly than the general price level, as they have, they have gotten less costly, not more.

Healthcare costs keep going up, which means doctors and hospitals are steadily increasing prices.

The point of comparing health care spending to incomes and GDP is to test whether that statement is true. It turns out that it is not true.

What happens when you subsidize something? It means the provider knows they are going to get paid no matter what, so this means they can raise prices.

Typically, healthcare costs outpace inflation.

Beyond that, supply and demand will cause healthcare to rise. When the government subsidies something, it means more people have access to it, which drives up demand and then drives up cost. While this is great for those who are eligible for ACA plans, and those who can get subsidized services, it also means those who are not eligible for ACA and the subsidies are having to pay higher costs associated with higher premiums due to the higher costs of Healthcare overall.

To me this is a catch 22, because those people on ACA NEED those services, but its driving up costs for everyone else.

The ACA is in worse shape than Biden. Let that damn thing die before it bankrupts everyone.

This is the one guy who seems to understand the ACA and healthcare.

And he gets roundly ignored

This is devastating news for Trump and the Republican Party.

Most MAGA voters actually agree with the Democrats when it comes to the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). MAGA voters want the Obamacare subsidies to continue past December 31st of this year.

This is a no-win situation for Trump and the Republican Party. --

Republicans are losing ground with their own base as the government shutdown drags into a third day, with new polling showing voters siding with Democrats on preserving enhanced Obamacare subsidies.

Seventy-eight percent of U.S. adults want Congress to extend the tax credits that lower monthly premiums for millions buying insurance through the Affordable Care Act Marketplace, a new Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) poll finds. Support cuts across party lines: 92 percent of Democrats, 82 percent of independents, and 59 percent of Republicans back the credits. Even among MAGA-aligned Republicans, a majority—57 percent—say they should remain.

The ACA tax credits, originally expanded under the 2021 American Rescue Plan, are a lifeline for roughly 24 million Americans. Without them, premiums are expected to double for many, and millions could lose coverage according to according to an analysis by KFF. The subsidies are set to expire at the end of the year.

Democrats have demanded that the subsidies, first put in place in 2021 and extended a year later, be extended again. They also want any government funding bill to reverse the Medicaid cuts in President Donald Trump's mega-bill passed this summer, which don't go into effect immediately but are already driving some states to cut Medicaid payments to health providers.

The public isn’t just siding with Democrats on policy; they’re also ready to assign blame if the subsidies disappear. Among Americans who support extending the credits, 39 percent say Trump would be most responsible, while 37 percent point to Republicans in Congress. Only 22 percent would blame Democrats.

Only because the great half black hopes ACA is so bad, and they got used to being subsidized, and I still doubt the poll

Nothing in the CR ends the Obamacare COVID subs the Dems are whining about
