Top Ten Countries With Best Public Health Care

And if you have a serious medical issue, you'll be looking at bankruptcy. That does not happen in other western democracies, only in this country.
It can, indirectly. In the UK per person, we pay half in tax as to what you pay in private medical insurance. So we can't get away from the tax, if you're fit and healthy, you've paid the health cost regardless. The indirect part is, how many of those who've been bankrupt wouldn't have gone bankrupt if their tax burden was reduced by the amount that goes into health care.

So to say, "It does not happen in other Western countries" is unknown and just an opinion, unless of course, you can link to a study that backs your theory.

About 12.5% is what we in the UK pay in National Insurance Contributions.
You should see it as health insurance not a tax and it covers more than just the NHS but a safety net from cradle to grave and a State Pension.

You may be fit & healthy now as I was - had never seen a doctor in my adult life until I was 59 then got terminal cancer.
Chemo has kept me alive for 7 extra years what price would you put on that?
The actual cost is £756,000 = 126 treatments @ £6000 not including consultancy fees which are also covered.
I was self-employed so wouldn't have had an insurance scheme paid for by my employer. Had I lived in the states I'd be dead.

NI is for your state pension. NHS funding just comes of the big pot of taxation. So such things as vat, corporation tax, vehicle excise duty, stamp duty etc.. just goes into the pot. So whichever taxes you pay, a proportion goes to fund healthcare.

All of the nations that recognize healthcare as a human right have healthier populations, especially in the modern, industrialized world. Infant mortality is lower, their life expectancy is higher and they have better medical outcomes because people see the doctor more often. They get more primary care than the average American hence they diagnose potential problems early, before they develop.

IM in Windsor, Ontario,Canada, can see Detroit from my home. Largest border crossing/busiest trad in the world. Our pop. in my city around 300,000. We have 2 small old hospitals short staffed/old equipment/no beds etc. ER waits are 5 to 10 HOURS...sometimes 12.

Ok. What is the difference between a procedure delayed in a socialist system and a procedure denied because the person can’t afford it?
In the 'socialist' system it will be an elective procedure. In the US it will be every procedure.

No American can dispute a word of that.

You'll get the same thing here, especially in an ER.

Here's the thing: I saw a nurse for an gastroenterologist, she asked me a few questions, we spent maybe ten minutes talking, then she sent me on to the checkout.

The bill for the visit? $382.00

With insurance: $178.00 (my cost)

Yea, I don't mind waiting. And neither would you after dealing with healthcare here.

Why do Republicans like going without healthcare, or receiving ridiculous bills in the mail from their healthcare providers?

Let's take a look at the Top Ten.

Socialism.............:114:

The United States spends more per capita on health care than any country in the world. Nevertheless, we have a lower life expectancy and a higher infant mortality than any of the top ten.
