Top 30 songs from 1967

What, no Beatles?
Beatles was number 30

And number 1 was "To Sir With Love" so clearly there was some voter fraud goin' on.
Not sure how they were ranked

I suspect it was on record sales rather than which were the best songs.

Don't get me wrong I had a mad crush on Marie MacDonald McLaughlin Lawrie, but that one doesn't even play well with others.
Agree, I found Lulu to be irritating.

There are a LOT of great songs from 1967 that aren’t on that list. Many of those 30 are Pop trash but there are some real classics on there.

Bobbie Gentry was just ridiculously talented (still is but retired). She composed, played multipe instruments, sang, arranged and produced (wasn't given credit because female), designed stage shows right down to choreography and costumes, competed in an Italian song contest (in 1968), hosted a regular TV show in Britain, sang in Italian, Spanish and Japanese, if you told me she did brain surgery while flying 747s it wouldn't surprise me. And then when she had the entertainment world wrapped around her little finger and could name her own contract, simply walked away. That's power.

"Ode to Billie Joe" was in fact a simple demo among many that they decided to just lay strings on and release. It was going to be a B-side. So when you hear that it's just an artist sitting down live running through "here's some of my stuff", four minutes and done.

The collection called "The Girl from Chickasaw County - Complete Capitol Masters" served up a lot of demos, unfinished works, and stuff that didn't fit some release at the time. It's out there on YouTube.

I always thought Billie Joe McAllister was a girl. I worked out this whole back story about her trying to hide a pregnancy.

I always thought Billie Joe McAllister was a girl. I worked out this whole back story about her trying to hide a pregnancy.

That was always a popular theory wasn't it. The artist says it was simply about callous indifference, the way the family awards a suicide no more of a glance than "pass the biscuits please". Whatever was thrown was simply an enigmatic mystery device, apparently meant to plant a worm in your head. Kind of a brilliant twist for a songwriter.

Harry, that's an outstanding list. Well mostly. ;)
How could we ignore Cream, the first LP I ever bought. :eusa_doh:

Several of these though are LP tracks, not singles (the Pepper tracks for instance) so that may have kept them off the OP list, but very legitimate.

Gotta make one revision though. "Funky Broadway", the original

Whatever, the Wilson Pickett record was a remake. Which reminded me of another Wilson Pickett remake, of this original from '67.

I've got this record and it's in way better shape. :)

If only I had discovered this late beautiful precious gentleman sooner.

God bless you and his family always!!!

Much Prefer this Version by Deep Purple

That's another plagiarism. Ripped off from John Lennon's line on "A Day In the Life".

And it's also from 1968.

?????
How can a cover of a song be plagiarism?
"Hush" is a song written by American composer and musician Joe South
Has nothing to do with the Beatles or John Lennon
