It was a one hit wonder, but it was a top song. I was browsing songs that were hits and then bands never produced more hits. As I listened, they showed this song. In the Summer Time. Why can a band produce one hit and not more of them? Who knows enough about music to give a rational reply?

I have a collection of a German TV show that ran from 1972 through 1983 called Disco. Mungo Jerry was a frequent guest on that show. I know from the introductions given by the host that while they may have only had one hit in the USA, they had several in the European countries during their time.
Here is a Wikipedia page about them.

A lot of times the band's instant success dooms them to future failure. Egos, all the money, attention, girls, drugs etc. Then there's the "hit song" phenomena itself. No one knows why one song becomes a smash and other ones don't.

The same was true of Ah-ha. They had just one hit in the U.S. but were very popular in Europe and were together for something like 25 years.

Here is an interesting clip from the show "disco".
The singer is Juliane Werding, most people will recognize the song, even if they don't speak German.

To me, it is one of those extremely annoying as hell songs that can drive you insane enough to go on a murdering spree.
Just like Who Let The Dogs Out.

The sheriff's brother opened a little nightclub, and we were underage, but he let us in any way. They were a local band that played there.

It's a 12 bar blues chord progression.

There's literally thousands of songs that use that exact same chord progression. Many hits.

It's a very familiar chord progression with a catchy melody.

This one is my favorite one hit wonder. At least the only hit here in the states.

I am so happy this forum has musical experts. I happen to know a lot. However not about music.

I remember it well, I was in Vietnam during that summer. I was 19 years old.

It's a 12 bar progression but it's in E Major. Blues is typically a 1-4-5 pattern in a minor key.
