New York has NOT achieved "herd immunity". You need a 70% infection rate for herd immunity. The entire state of New York has had 408,000 cases, versus a population of 8.9 million in New York city alone. While the number of cases which were not reported is thought to be high, hospital testing of non-covid patients going into hospital is showing - at best, a 10% level of infection in the community. That's a LONG, LONG way from herd immunity.

The New York outbreak had no life saving drugs to work with, and very little data on what treatments work. Now we know more, and there are drugs that are actually working. One has to wonder how many people died in New York because New York patients were being given hydroxychloroquine, which may have increased the death rate.

New York is recording few cases and zero tests because New Yorkers learned how to keep themselves safe and they're doing it. They're also re-opening slowly to protect their hard won shut down of the virus.

What is truly shameful is what is happening in Texas, Arizona and Florida. They have utterly ignored the lessons of New York. The reports coming out of these hot spots sound like New York never happened. They're running out of PPE's. There is insufficient testing capacity. Arizona hospitals are full and overwhelmed. Texas hospitals are at capacity in urban centres. Ditto Alabama.

Florida had more new cases on Monday than all of Europe. When New York was surging, Ron De Santis was very smug and arrogant about how much better Florida was doing than New York. This week Florida had more new cases that New York did at the height of the outbreak.

The USA is having the same level of disease and death as "shithole countries" in Central and South America and Africa. Donald Trump has reduced the USA to the status of a third world nation. Is America great yet?

Controlled meaning protect the vulnerable population, mainly nursing homes where half the deaths are coming from. That’s not what NY did. They pretty much emptied out their nursing homes because they killed everyone in there by sending covid patients back to nursing homes. 30,000 deaths in one state alone. Florida is just crossing 3,000 as they are close to approaching herd immunity. Don’t try to spin the numbers. NY was out of control while every other state was in control.
