This would be a great topic for a thread of its own. Is modern day Israel biblical Israel? In the past, I was like the conservatives here on USMB who strongly and unconditionally support Israel. I used the same arguments that they are currently using.

But recently I've been learning a lot and starting to realize that I was wrong about several things, and my position has changed somewhat. I still support the Jewish people, but I no longer think of the Israeli government in the way these "Israel can do no wrong" types think.

Getting back to the topic of modern day Israel vs biblical Israel....I think you and ActionJackson bring up some very important points that most Christians here are ignoring. I don't know the exact percentage, but I know that a good chunk of Israelis don't even believe in God. As for the ones who do, I'm curious to know if the type of Judaism they adhere to is - as you said - Talmudic / Rabbinic, or Biblical.

I still have a lot of learning to do, but something feels very wrong about how so many mainstream Christians have unequivocal support (almost to the point of idolatry) for a government that has no spiritual connection to Abraham or people of faith.

The other sad and ironic thing is that there are some palestinians who are Christians. The "Israel can do no wrong" types here don't seem to care about them at all, and those palestinian Christians are much more their brethren than secular Jews who reject Jesus, and are currently doing things that are in direct opposition to God's commands.

Also, God's covenant with Israel -- all the tribes -- was a PHYSICAL covenant. God's spiritual covenant is with the true Church of God.

His covenant with Israel was to make her a great nation.

If you're really understood, you'd know that covenant has been fulfilled. The people who established America are JOSEPH -- specifically His son Manasseh.

Great Britain is also Joseph -- thru Josephs son Ephraim.

Other tribes are scattered throughout N.W. Europe. Israel, thru all the Tribes are the world leaders.

The FACT that the Jews have returned to THE LAND as an established nation is proof that the people inhabiting the Land ARE "the Jews.". The FACT that they are the ONLY people who recognize and KEEP THE SABBATH HOLY is further proof. The SABBATH -- not PAGAN SUNDAY is the IDENTIFYING SIGN of God's physical nation on the earth

If you call yourself a TRUE CHRISTIAN, EVENTUALLY you will come to abandon Satan Day (Sunday) and KEEP THE SEVENTH DAY SABBATH HOLY.

Those who follow SUNDAY are of the synagogue of Satan.

Also, these is NOTHING in the Scriptures requiring the Jews to recognize Jesus in this current Age in order for the prophecy to be fulfilled.

Fake Jews going back to the same land as ancient Israelites is not proof of fulfilling anything.

The term Israel means “one who wrestles/contends with God”. These are the people who have a relationship with God and have a covenant with God. By the time Jesus came along, the Jewish leadership was so corrupt that they did not have any relationship God. No ark of the covenant, no holy presence of God in the temple.

The Pharisees accused Jesus of violating the Sabbath when he performed miracles on the Sabbath. Jesus of course answered this and sent them packing.

Plus the honoring God on the Sabbath was a specific commandment to the Israelites, and does not apply to Gentiles. The Old Covenant was fulfilled and completed (“It is accomplished”) when Jesus died on the cross. Which is why Jesus said the temple would be destroyed and he would remake it in three days. There is no need for a stone temple anymore, as the new temple is the body of Christ and the New Covenant is open for all people to take part in.

You claim the people in modern day “Israel” are like the Jews of 2000+ years ago, yet they do not follow Mosaic Law as given in the Torah. Talmudic Jews are nothing like ancient Israelites.
Why haven’t they built the new third temple? Because deep down they know if they do, no holy presence of God is going to come down and occupy it.
