During the occupation of Iraq, after the remove of Saddam.
The insurrection that started about April 2004 was mostly organized, funded, and supported by Iran.

My oldest son was with the 1st Cav Div on occupation duties in Baghdad April 2004 - April 2005 and in numerous firefights.
When he returned he told me that about half of the insurgents they killed and captured carried grave markers in Farsi.

Farsi is the main language of Iran.
These were Iranian "volunteers" fighting our troops inside Iraq.
During that time the USA was again engaged in proxy war with Iran.

Happened before, and has happened since.
