This One is Not Going to Work

And hundreds of languages can still be spoken in america, but there's nothing wrong with saying "we are america, our language is English, our bird is the eagle, here is our flag, pizza is the official food (ok, I just threw that in there....one can hope!)"
.

The only time I ever traveled internationally, besides Canada, was to Northern England, and I spent a lot of time trying to learn to speak or at least understand the commonest dialect, Mancunian. I made it okay until I went to Liverpool. LOL!

It was important to me to try to be able to communicate with my hosts.

The difference is the US and state gov'ts won't be wasting all the money to print every gov't document in 180 different languages. If a person immigrates to the US, it is incumbent on them to assimilate, not vice versa.
GUESS you never travel,?
I sure like the help with directions & info in English when visiting other country's.
PLUS WE make a lot of MONEY off the tourists coming here.
Just a thought, always another side to every story.

Honestly, I don't see why this is a problem? If you intend on becoming an American, and learning the language is something you should do. To come here and thumb your nose at our language and other customs, makes one wonder...why exactly did they want to come here...

Because unk is a shitlord. He posts no content, just bullshit.

What does the 14th Amendment have to do with languages the government is required to publish documents in for foreign language speakers? You're up to bat! Don't strike out!

He won't answer. He NEVER answer a question. He just dodges, deflects, insults, trolls, and distracts.

Excellent. Stop offering documents or assistance in other languages. If you want to be here, speak English. If you want to be fluent in 7 languages, great; but 1 of them better be English.
NO doubt speaking English would be way more than helpful, if your going to live here.
But is it necessary to be mean about it?

And let's not forget that a person learning something hasn't necessarily mastered it yet.

Again, do you think everyone in the country will instantly and magically become fluent in English the minute he signs an executive order? And, we have always had hundreds of languages in America and we've done pretty well so far.
Speaking Polish in Chicago is now against an EO

It would remove foreign languages from all federal government correspondence

If someone applies for welfare or wants to vote they have to do it in English
Do you want someone to vote for something they don't understand?

Trying to make an "official language" for the US is not going to work. Too many practical and constitutional problems with the idea.
What constitutional problem? I find nothing in the Constitution that would prevent it.

It would in no way stop people from speaking whatever language they wanted among themselves. But the U.S.A. and states would no longer have to provide information, ballots, whatever in multiple languages.

It would provide more leverage to require immigrants to have at least a rudimentary ability to read and speak English in order to get a real I.D./Driver's license and such. And make us all more safe because they could read road signs and hear and understand warnings and such.

We could return to the time new immigrants were required to provide or pay for education for their children until they had mastered English enough to attend public schools. Kids pick up languages very quickly. My four year old was speaking a lot of Spanish because the excellent pre-school she attended taught it as part of their curriculum. She loved it.

...
I've already covered this. Article 1, Amendments 14 and 15.
