This is why progressive elitists want socialized health care

You cant have both dummy...

Sorry you cant have your cake and eat it....

In your limited reality that may be the case. Not in mine.

You're not very bright are you???

Give me an example of a socialist state that has protected and documented freedoms.

israel for one.

once more... we are the only "civilized" country not to take care of our own

oh.. and on this subject, i'm afraid he seems much brighter than you.

you're mixing up concepts again... you seem to be confused in thinking unfettered capitalism is equal to freedom. unfettered capitalism leads to banana republics...

letting people die and be sick doesn't advance "freedom".

if you "spent 10 years reading Marx", you'd know that Marx was communist, not socialist.

you're usuing terms interchangeably that aren't interchangeable.

so no.... you don't know [anything]"

I could say that socialism could be successful under a small unit... Much like a traditional family is socialist in nature To say socialism could be effective in a nation of 300,000,000 is delusional...

An employer-sponsored health insurance plan that incorporates wellness incentives? How unusual!

Something, something socialism...OBAMACARE. Boo!

The employer is the state government...

This has nothing to do with socialism as an economic theory and everything to do with the social consequences of socialism.

The government in authoritarian fashion dictates your life and if you don't follow those rules you're going to get fucked one way or another...

This is just an example of big government dictating peoples lives...

Who the fuck is the government to tell people what they can and cannot do or eat???

Then progressives have the fucking audacity to claim they're for individual freedom???

No, no you're not - you're for a government dictated Orwellian society and this new "wellness plan" proves just that...
What ever happened to those conservative lectures about how we should all assuming responsibility for our actions and that a "nanny" state with publically funded healthcare is unAmerican? Since when does assuming responsibility for oneself exclude looking after one's health?

Its a sad state of affairs when an employeer is forced to "bribe" its employees to embrace a healthier lifestyle, especially when medical studies all agree that alcohol, smoking and an improper diet leads to a whole host of problems - obesity, diabetes, heart attacks/stroke, cancer, etc.

If the government wanted to be truly "Orwellian," it would suppress these medical studies and encourage people to live unhealthy lifestyles. The savings accrued through premature deaths would save it alot more in pension payments than the $50/month it will receive from employees who choose to opt out of the "wellness incentives."

What I want ot know is who is espousing socialism. Or have you been drinkin' the right wing koolaid. It is as nasty as the left wing flavour.

Sorry the USSR fell 20 years ago...

Yeah it doesn't work.......

the USSR was communist...

again, you seem to be confused about concepts.

Yeah "communal" is a confusing concept...

What are the differences between society and community?????

do you know what a kibbutz is?

because israel has them, does that make it "communist"?

"society" and "community" are good things. socialism and communism have to do with different economic systems which represent different concepts of the ownership of the means of production... communism is also a political system, which is not the case with socialism. theoretically, if you've read marx, you should know that he believed there would ultimately be no government at all. the system failed because the idea that the ruling elite of the communist party would ever give up power willingly flew in the face of any realistic assessment.

that doesn't mean that some level of socialism and some socialist concepts aren't good things... and we already know that unfettered capitalism (laissez faire/adam smith type) is a horrible thing for society.

Authoritarians are socialists and this is an authoritarian measure...

Authoritarianism and socialism go hand and hand.

Anyone who has read about socialism could make the connection ........

so if socialism could be successful under a small unit, that means it's not inherantly evil. ok. fair enough.

the problem, however, is you've bought into the notion that anyone who has any type of social responsibility is a "socialist". that is a lie you've been told over and over and apparently bought into. you then use the word socialism interchangeably with the word "communism" which has a very negative connotation and conjures images of the USSR (which you even tried to bring into this 'discussion').

the reality is most people on the left are normal people who like making money and are capitalists (i'd hardly think bill gates and warren buffet are commies) but accept that there are certain elements which one can take from socialist ideas to make society a bit better.

but to go back to what you were complaining about in the o/p... chicago wants people to take responsibility for their wellness and are encouraging them by charging more for health coverage for people who choose not to participate. that is hardly "commie" or "socialist". in fact, it's free market b/c if someone doesn't want to be healthy, they can pay the additional costs which will be associated with them not taking care of themselves.

i fail to see how this is a bad thing... don't want them involved in keeping you healthy, pay the extra money to take care of you
