Bizarre.

WASHINGTON – Greenland rejected a seemingly impromptu plan by Donald Trump to send a hospital boat to the island he's trying to acquire, saying in a searing statement that the U.S. president should respect the territory's sovereignty and stop needling it on social media.

“It’s a no thank you from here," Prime Minister Jens Frederik Nielsen said. "President Trump’s idea of sending an American hospital ship here to Greenland has been noted."

The statement followed Trump's announcement in a Feb. 21 social media post that he planned to send a hospital vessel to Greenland to care for sick residents of the Arctic island, whom he said weren't receiving treatment.

"Working with the fantastic Governor of Louisiana, Jeff Landry, we are going to send a great hospital boat to Greenland to take care of the many people who are sick and not being taken care of there. It’s on the way!!!" Trump said, referring to his special envoy to the island.

Nowhere in the story does Denmark say they are sending their own hospital shop or building a hospital in Greenland to provide desperatately needed healthcare. It is long past time for the last vestiges of European colonialism to be eradicated from the Americas.

The United States has a long-standing agreement allowing fulsome access to Greenland, and of course is free to operate ships in the international waters near Greenland. If the Danish rulers prevent Greenlanders from getting treatment in the American hospital ship, they will have to do it by confining the native people to the island, because it has no authority and certainly no power to preven the U.S. from offering it.

Trump is the gift that keeps giving. However, this time I wish he had not offered. This is Denmark's problem and Trump rails at helping out other nations problems.

I've never heard him rail at helping out other nations problems.

I've heard him criticize specific aspects of helping out other nations, such as sending Samolia all that fraud money.

I meant to say some of the other nations, not all of them.

Bullshit story,

Aside from the liar TACO - nobody has claimed or stated that Greenland would need foreign help - nor that Greenlanders can't be taken care off via their own hospitals.

Not receiving treatment for what?

I have to say that I'm mystified by Trump's constantly combative patter with Greenland treating both them and Canada like ants under our thumbs with no choice but to comply with the BMOC.

I would remind Donald that you get more flies with honey than vinegar and that Trump should be a friend first that these countries see it in their best interest to partner with the USA as something in their best interests instead of their having "no choice."

At this point, no doubt, Greenland sees the hospital ship as a "bribe" for which they do not want to be beholding to us for.

Like it or not, both Canada and Greenland are both pretty happy just as they are.

For bandage type cuts, Greenland has good services. But for serious things, they may have to be carted to Denmark and wait there. Greenland simply lacks the facilities to handle all its citizens. Trump offered help is all.

Sending a hospital ship to help people who have reached out to say that they are unable to get medical care under their country's system seems like a very good example of using honey to catch flies - metaphorically speaking. If he had sent an aircraft carrier, your complaint would make more sense. This ship is to help people who would voluntarily accept its services.
At this point, no doubt, Greenland sees the hospital ship as a "bribe" for which they do not want to be beholding to us for.
Then praise Allah that flies are smarter than the European colonial rules of Greenland, or flies would turn up their noses at honey just as fast as at vinegar for fear of the honey being a bribe.
Like it or not, both Canada and Greenland are both pretty happy just as they are.
If that is true, then the hospital ship will lay to for a couple of weeks with no Greenlander being interested. If the Greenlanders prefer to hope that their names are getting higher on the waitlists to getting treatment immediately and are pretty happy with that Trump will shrug and return to the ship to Louisiana.

I'm not seeing the downside, except for some overly sensitive people getting their egos bruised.

Exactly.

As far as I know, Canada doesn't send people to Britain for treatment. This is why I say Greenland is the last vestige of European colonialism.

I live in Houston, but my ancestors were from Scottland. If I were told that I would have to go to Glasgow for life-saving treatment and there was a hospital ship open to me in Galveston Bay, that's a pretty easy choice.
