There cannot be a peace deal when President Trump only proposes that Russia keep Crimea, which Russia did not take in war but in an unanimous vote of the population in Crimea to be reunited with Russia from which Crimea had been torn.

Trump has not included in the deal Russian Donbas, which also voted to be returned to Russia or the other Russian areas that Russian forces have liberated and have been reincorporated into Russia.


In other words, so far, other than Crimea, President Trump has offered President Putin none of the former Russian territory that is now again part of Russia herself. Is the implication that Putin must hand back to Ukraine the territory from which Russian soldiers have driven out Ukrainian soldiers? So Putin’s 3+ years of war was all for nothing?

The fact is, under Biden, Ukraine was constantly losing territory to Russia, no matter how much other countries like the US helped them. At some point they were going to cease to exist as a country. That is the path they were on. That is the path they are still on. Another fact is, Crimea has already been Russian territory since the Obama years. By giving up an area that was no longer theirs anyway, Ukraine would have lost nothing in the deal and saved most of Ukraine as a country. That is the reality of the situation.

All of the Ukraine used to be part of Russia until the Treaty of Versailles in 1920.

What does that gave to do with today’s Ukrainians? They’re a sovereign country with settled borders, since the break up of the SU.

Since we are talking about Ukraine I must assume that is what you are referring to. The fact is, under Biden, no matter how much help the US and other countries gave them, they were constantly losing territory and would continue losing territory until their country ceased to exist. What are you not understanding about that?

Wrong.
Since Russia used to have some of its nuclear weapons in the Ukraine, the Ukraine has to be inside of Russia's defense grid.
That means that if first strike nukes were launched from the Ukraine, Russia could not detect them until they went off.
That could destroy Russia's retaliatory capability.
So then Russia can never allow the government of the Ukraine to not be friendly with Russia.
Putin has absolutely no choice now that Zelensky has declared he is a traitor to Russia.
Now Putin has to remove the leadership in Kyiv entirely.
It is not Putin's fault.
And the Baltics and Poland are not at all similar, in that they are outside Russia's defense grid.

If he’s losing, why are we helping? The answer to that is worth more than your respect, because allowing a dictator to get his way is stupid.

I didn't say Putin was losing. I simply pointed out that this war with Ukraine has been incredibly costly to Russia in both human casualties and in military equipment. Russia has lost over half of it's main battle tanks. The cost to replace that armor is going to be staggering and if the price of oil and natural gas is kept low because of Trump's energy policies, then Vladimir Putin is not going to be able to afford to replace what he's lost. That's Trump's leverage against Putin. The war has become a stalemate that neither side can sustain.
