Zone1 Pope Leo calls for peace, gives Putin a pass and criticizes Trump. That is politics, not a call for peace.

This reminds me of the poem, at first they came for the gays. I didn't say anything because I wasn't gay. Then they came for the trade unions. I didn't say anything because I wasn't in a trade union.

When I say YOU I mean you people. I'm lumping you all together just like you do blacks or mexicans or any other groups. Arabs. Jews. YOU Catholics.

A majority of U.S. Catholic voters supported Donald Trump in his 2024 presidential victory.

And now you see you either agree with him or you can F off. How you like him now?

It tells me your judgement is off. If you could be so wrong about Trump, what else are you all wrong about? Have you even admitted you should have voted for Kamala yet? Are Republicans going to keep seats in the House and Senate? If they do, then you Catholics did this to yourselves.

Now I see how Hitler got one over on all the German Catholics. They aren't that bright.
Is that how you see your father and brother too?

Sounds like you favor protection rackets? Who else should we be paying?
I side with the Pope believe it or not. Funny you don't. Because we see you put your politics above religion. Typical.

Pope Leo XIV has said that the world is being “ravaged by a handful of tyrants”

I see it, he sees it, the rest of the world sees it. You don't.

denounce world leaders that invoke religion to justify violence against other nations.

Who could he be talking about?

Woe to those who manipulate religion and the very name of God for their own military, economic and political gain, dragging that which is sacred into darkness and filth,” Leo told a gathering at Saint Joseph Cathedral in the western city of Bamenda.

“They turn a blind eye to the fact that billions of dollars are spent on killing and devastation, yet the resources needed for healing, education and restoration are nowhere to be found.

The unusually forceful statement from the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, meanwhile, came after JD Vance, Trump’s vice-president and a converted Catholic, assailed Leo for speaking out against the war, in effect telling the pope to stay out of politics and “stick to matters of morality”.

On Tuesday, Vance questioned Leo’s call for peace by challenging his benchmark for a “morally justifiable” war. “When the pope says that God is never on the side of people who wield the sword, there is more than a 1,000-year tradition of just war theory,” he told a Turning Point USA event at the University of Georgia.

But the bishops said Vance had mis-stated Leo’s position. “For over a thousand years, the Catholic Church has taught just war theory and it is that long tradition the Holy Father carefully references in his comments on war,” said the statement on Wednesday, attributed to James Massa, chair conference’s committee on doctrine.

“A constant tenet of that thousand-year tradition is a nation can only legitimately take up the sword ‘in self-defense, once all peace efforts have failed’. That is, to be a just war it must be a defense against another who actively wages war, which is what the Holy Father actually said: ‘He does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war.’

“When Pope Leo XIV speaks as supreme pastor of the universal Church, he is not merely offering opinions on theology, he is preaching the Gospel and exercising his ministry as the Vicar of Christ.”

Back up. You may have missed where I said that I read all of the Pope's speech. Had he, like Jesus, been addressing individuals in their individual lives, he was spot on. Instead, Pope Leo decided to address a nation. Jesus did not go around talking to nations. He spoke to people, individual people. In fact, it should be noted he deliberately avoided speaking with King Herod. He spoke to the people and how to live their individual lives. I am against any pope stepping out of being a man of the people and into the very public political arena and the role of politician. He shone a light on his own, personal political view. He wasn't following Christ--he was using Christ in a political arena he set up. I object to that. That's the last thing a man in his position should be doing. Think about it. How would you feel about a pope who urged the US to stand up against nations he felt were causing harm? Would you want the Pope in the political arena then? I would not.

Back up. What year did you first see it? I saw it in the 1970s, so I went back through history...yep, it was there then as well. The problem with you is that you are convinced you know what every other person is thinking (or not thinking) and that you are above us all.

OH MY GOD. Spin spin spin. But it's what I expected. So you side with Trump over the Pope on this Iran war. Got it. WOW. I bet you were in favor of the Iraq war too.

I think the Pope was very clear who he was talking about and it's pretty damning of the President. Basically the Pope is warning YOU ya f'ing idiot that he's a god damn Hitler. And when should the Pope speak out? After how many die? Or should he never speak up like the coward pope during WW2? Or the coward who didn't say anything when Bush lied us into Iraq?

This is what pisses me off about religion. They do such unholy things and don't even realize they are doing them. Like America during slavery or what we did to the Indians. We were a "christian" nation you say while we did these things? Huh.

The U.S.-Israeli war with Iran could trigger a new food price shock pushing tens of millions into acute hunger if it drags on, officials across the world are warning.

Rising energy, shipping and fertilizer costs fueled by Tehran's stranglehold on the crucial Strait of Hormuz trade route are already being felt in the United States, but the sharpest consequences are expected to fall on poorer, import-dependent countries unable to absorb the higher costs.

Thousands of miles from the Middle East, in Brazil, South Asia and East Africa, even small increases in the price of growing and transporting food can deepen hunger and strain already fragile food systems, where millions are already struggling to afford basic staples.

The war has already sent oil markets into turmoil, but as farmers around the world prepare for the next planting season, that concern is shifting to a less visible but equally critical resource: fertilizer.

Liquefied natural gas, of which Qatar is the world's second-largest exporter, is an essential ingredient in producing nitrogen fertilizers including urea, a widely used agricultural product that helps plants grow and boosts yields. But shipping delays and uncertainty have led to soaring prices.

Roughly one-third of all globally traded fertilizer shipped by sea passes through the strait, meaning any sustained disruption risks rippling quickly across food production and prices.

How many lives has Trump disrupted? Why? Because YOU say they were trying to build a nuke? No they weren't. Or because they didn't like us threatening their air space? I mean I'm not one to defend Iran but they didn't start this. And if this is Trump's negotiating tactics, he sucks.

Starting with the wrong assumption has again led you to the wrong conclusion.

My father hates Trump. My brother and nephews are Notsees yes. Or they would have been in 1941 had they been born in Germany.
So everything you wrote in that post applies to your brother?

People advocate religion in politics only when it suits them. You seem proud to announce the Pope agrees with you. Are you equally proud of the fact Iran also agrees with you?

Like my mom, you seem to be a black or white kind of person. An issue is either black or it is white. What you can't understand is that some of us cannot see that way. We see shades of grey and work from there. In shades of grey, the fault lies with many and each solution can have both seen and unseen repercussions. You appear to see two teams and you have chosen your "team". Your team has the only solution and everyone else should fall in line. I see it as the entire populations are in this together--and each element needs to be worked out.

You insist I pick a team. I don't see "teams" but a whole. And that is something you are incapable of understanding. Just as my mom.

I'd have to re read it. What did I say? He's not an evil notsee. There were lots of good notsees in Germany. Good people who fell for Hitler's bullshit.

We see video and ask what the F was wrong with the German people. How could they not see that he was a mad man.

Future humans will wonder the same about us. What did we see in this man?

Everytime you write something derogatory about Republicans you are writing that about your brother.

Not always but sometimes yes. And I love him. It's like brothers during the civil war who fought for different sides.

You should remember that everytime you write something derogatory about Republicans. Pretend like you are addressing your brother and choose your words appropriately.

I will. I'm glad you replied because I was just thinking about this. He's such a good guy. He doesn't realize how good he is. I just got out of the hospital. Been there since Saturday. Not only did they watch my dog they got him a haircut and bath. He's the best. I'm sure there were a lot of good German's who voted for Hitler. For the Nazi's. And my brother does have a negative opinion of Israel, so there's that. And he's tainted by his wealth. He has forgotten where he came from. Lost some level of empathy I know he used to have. Still has it, but the more we see, the more we get conservative right?

Like I was telling him about my roommate at the hospital. WONTSAYFIRSTNAME "smiley" Valentine. A playa from Detroit. Has 20 kids. 12 boys 8 girls. 4 different women, some at the same time. Says he took care of his kids. But he also said he spent 20 years off and on in prison. So how did he take care of those kids? He didn't. We did. Things like this make you an American Notsee. But he used to understand we put them where they are today. We made them 2nd class citizens. I haven't forgotten. I'm a DOSEE. I see. Like I'm woke and you two are asleep.

But I can't tell my brother this. That's why I come here. I just ask him about certain things in the news that I know will trigger him or see what his spin on it is. I forgot his most recent spin he heard from the Wall Street Journal on how/why Iran is a good idea. Yea, for American BUSINESS'. Not Americans. And could lead to WW3. I mean honestly, why are we at war with Iraq? Same question we asked about Saddam. Oh he was a bad man. Killed a lot of his people. BLABLABLA Not our problem. Who's next after Iran? And we can't even "win" in Iran. Same way we never "won" in Iraq. I'm smarter that you and my brother when it comes to this stuff. You two just think you're smart.

Anyways, he just bought a new 1.2 million dollar home. He has forgotten the under $100,000 class a long time ago. His CEO bosses took him on a business trip and convinced him he is a Republican. I think he's rich enough to be one although I don't think he even benefits from Republicans. But he keeps asking me if I've checked my investments lately. So the stock market is good? It was good under Biden too. And Trump ain't worth the drama. Hitler was good for business too. Lots of spending on bombs and planes.

Today I said to him "do you know how you can tell if a person comes from self made money or is born into it? A self made man still moves his own furniture into his $1.2 million dollar home". We laughed. He said "I'm also painting the place".

It's just incredible to see what he has done to Christianity, and perhaps even religion in general. In a way, he has exposed it.

Christians who still follow him have a decision to make here. They're fused religion and politics. Those are two different things.

They're either serious about their religion, or they are not. Time to choose. Trump is forcing their hand.
And, as I have pointed out multiple times, most of those advocating that Christians demand their leaders follow Christ's teachings would be the first in the streets screaming about a theocracy if they actually did.

Consider, all the millions of Christian voters in the US form a third party that is bigger than either of the other two that have been stripped of their members, select only the Godliest, most righteous candidates with the cleanest backgrounds and strongest church attendance, who will then get all their votes, just like the other parties. He/she will be surrounded at all times with spiritual advisors, and the party will have their representatives in the president's inner circle with veto power over any and all decisions. They will be installed in all cabinet posts and will lead the president.

Sound good?
