I will dig up the Atlantic piece and read it with interest.
There was a poster on this venue, I forget his handle, who has advised the forum that it is one thing to satirize those mokes who breached the Capitol and beat up the cops......but America's focus should not be on what they did, but ...'why' are these mokes the way they are?
And, that we should take them more seriously than we do.

I think that is a fair point.

For me personally, those who pop up on RWNJ chatrooms with their crackpottisms are just too fat a target to not shoot at. So I do.

But, I will admit, I know some people who I like, respect, and enjoy. And they hold some very similar crackpottery-views that I read on sites like this. (one nice lady told me the Covid vaccines have battery acid in 'em. Another, who also happened to be a woman, told me vaccines are made from fresh abortion material. Another, a dear dear neighbor, who had Covid and recovered after a rough go....told my wife she knows Covid was intentionally manufactured and released in order to thin the world' population.)

So there is that. From people my bride and I know......and like.

There are so many dovetailing developments in our recent American history that any one or all could contribute to the nutjobbery. Was it Watergate? Monica's BJ? Newt's peevish 'Contract'? 9/11? the Wars? the housing bubble? outsourced manufacturing?

Hell, I don't know. It's a U-Pick-Em of possible factors that have made some folks so fearful they fill their closets with guns & ammo; so grievance ridden they hate most anything and everybody and there's a secret conspiracy behind everything.

In the end, it is all so much higher than my pay-grade. And, truth be told, the America I live in is fun as hell, interesting as all get out, and so far---and I'm pretty doggone old --- it's been a satisfactory ride.

There was a poster on this venue once who was a strident advocate that the Oathkeepers were homosexuals. Maybe he claimed the Proud Boys, Bugaloo Bois, the GOP and Right Wing Conservatives were too. I can't exactly remember all who he claimed were gay?

Every night at 9 p.m, they stop what they're doing to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner."

"Some of them are in their cells and some of them are out in the common area, but whatever it is that they're doing, they stop and they sing," Cynthia Hughes told Insider.

In an October 26 court hearing, the attorney Stephen Brennwald recounted the moment he heard the defendants sing their nightly rendition of the national anthem while on the phone with his client, Thomas Sibick.

"I heard them myself," Brennwald said, Law & Crime reported. "It was literally this herd mentality. They're literally singing, most of them off-key, literally singing the song, almost cult-like. It was pretty scary actually."

The group had also formed a close bond, Hughes said: "They're very solid in there. They're very united. They have a prayer group. They have a Bible study group." The defendants are each assigned a one-man cell, but they get to mingle in communal areas, Hughes said. To stay occupied, they also organize events, most recently arranging a Halloween DIY craft contest, she said.

Well, let's just use the above post by one of the more histrionic posters here to comment about the "inhumane treatment" the violent January 6th rioters currently jailed have experienced.....in jail.
Let's just do it in a bullet-point fashion cause it's getting late.

1. Those now incarcerated and not bonded out are there because their charges are for violence against a person; they've made statements indicating they are violent; they pose a flight risk.
2. They complain the conditions in jail are poor. Which is probably true. Many jails are that way....rather non-Holiday Express-like. Duh! Jail is an unpleasant place to be. Duhx2!
3. Their whining about being treated badly is now being heard by the management and decision makers and many prisoners have been moved to other less crowded facilities.
4. Not to go unnoticed, management & decision makers are finally taking actions .......because, it is argued......a bunch of white males are whining about the food, the lack of privacy, the rude guards.
5. Not to go unnoticed, management & decision makers have heard the exact same complaints for years, and years, and years.......from the mostly black prisoners who've experienced that jail.
6. See the recent opinion piece in the Washington Post ....."We have a plan to close the D.C. jail. It's time to act. ...... by three staffers of 'District Task Force on Jails'
