Dear Wry Catcher the loopholes and unintended consequences with gun legislation can be better addressed in a respectful atmosphere not judging or attacking ppl as wicked or politically greedy. Same with abortion politics. As long as both sides attack each other's motives and argue about that, it doesn't help at all but detracts attention and resources away from real effective solutions that can be agreed on despite other areas of differences.

With the gun and crime issue, the most dire need is more accurate means of screening and treating mental illness and abusive disorders far in advance at first sign of hazard or danger.

The same solutions that would allow for that screening would solve other problems as well, so it is cost effective.
How can we do the research and development in a converted effort if we're too distracted and divided over whose political motive is coming from where.

Let's look toward solutions society is heading for to be sustainable and in cooperation , then once we agree what the goals are we can work backwards to take steps to get there from here.

Bullying back and forth is not going to work but wastes resources to undo or to fix bad laws that get distorted that way. Why not resolve the conflicts first, and pass good solid laws everyone agrees to enforce

I know of incarcerated parents who were able to get their kids to go to college instead of ending up in jail like them. It depends what they teach their kids, and the spiritual path of those kids. If ppl forgive the past we don't have to repeat the lessons to learn from them. There are more factors involved.

But the RISK to the children is very high (as compared to kids with straight parents)

So ppl with cancer shouldn't have kids because of the risk?
Couples of mixed race shouldn't have kids because their chance of finding a bone marrow match goes down to near 0?

Hey I'm all for this line of thinking if you can convince pot smoking parents to quit or else it will increase risks to their kids. Racially biased cultural thinking is also passed from generation to generation unless that pattern is changed, if you want to address that.

If you really want to stop the risk of drug problems, crime problems, or issues with orientation or racial biases passed down to kids: the common solution among the different programs that effectively address each is based on forgiveness and spiritual healing.

So sure, protectionist why not promote or require this counseling for all people so we don't target just one group . Why not require it of all ppl who don't want anyone teaching kids that pot is natural with no risks of brain damage, or anyone letting mentally ill or abusive run free till they hurt or kill someones, or anyone teaching that homosexuality is natural and cannot be changed. Spiritual healing cannot change all cases, but it's the common factor in cases that can be helped.

Why not support this solution across the board? Of course, the choice has to remain individually with each person or the healing process never works. You cannot force forgiveness, it must be chosen freely. That's why govt cannot force solutions on this level.

Even if the entire public was educated on how these solutions work, it still has to be accepted and applied by free choice.

If you believe in promoting spiritual healing as the solution to a myriad of problems, I'm all for it. Let's do the medical research and social stats on the positive effects of healing mental and physical illness, drug and sex abuse Addiction and Criminal Illness, and resolving religious and political conflicts to heal and restore natural healthy relatioinships. When ppl see how well it works, it will catch on and more ppl will chose that path and process to solve problems instead of fighting over them.

I'm all for it protectionist let's form research teams, get grants and sponsors to prove this works, and go for it!
