Zone1 The Ten Commandments don't apply to us.

God did a horrible job writing the Ten Commandments. Not his best effort

I could have done a better job

MAGAts believe only white males have First Amendment rights. It's one reason why Trump eliminated the 11th through the 27th Amendments from the Trump Bible.
Understandable
Trump never read it anyway

$5 gas? Higher grocery prices? Saying something is one thing but doing is another. You should be old enough to know the difference.

You're free to lie about me, but by doing so, it proves you lied about being a Christian.

From the Ten Commandments, which still apply BTW:
"You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor"

You are a liar, but that is not the same as bearing false witness. Bearing false witness under oath is referring to court actions.
From your own link:
Two or three witnesses were needed in ancient Hebrew law to establish a claim under civil law or a crime under criminal law. A false witness could lie under oath during judicial proceedings in order to establish guilt in a criminal case, or fault in a civil case.

Bob, your understanding of the Bible is truly Bad...

Then do it. God could use a good laugh today...

What I would include in my Ten Commandments

1. Thou shall not allow slavery. Moses led the Hebrews out of slavery and struggled to free them. Yet God does not even prohibit slavery in his ten commandments. I would prohibit slavery and order employers to pay an honest wage and order workers to give an honest days work

2. Thou shall be clean in thy person and thy environment. God could have saved hundreds of millions of lives with this one. Sanitation was a major killer of mankind. Keep yourself clean to avoid germs. Do not pollute your drinking water or your environment. Could have prevented the plague and other killer diseases

3. Thou shall not engage in War. War is a practice of man and not God. God should encourage peaceful resolution of conflicts and consider war an act against God

4. Thou shall educate yourself and others. A critical trait of man. Learning and the spread of knowledge. You should strive to learn your whole life and spread knowledge to others

5. I would expand the honor your father and mother to honor your family. Parents should honor their kids, make sure they are fed and clothed and protected. You should work hard to take care of your family

can someone explain to me how it would be constitutional to enforce the commandments like "keeping the sabbath holy" or "have no other gods"?

anyone?

Sorry, I didn't know you were an Irish Jew. The link is a Christian website and goes on to explain the commandment from a Christian POV. Had you read further down the link, you'd have seen this:

Starting lies about someone or spreading them is bearing false witness, a terrible offense in the sight of God.

Although some claim Moses lifted the Ten Commandments from Hammurabi's Code, I think most are simply common sense rules to keep the peace in a tribe or village.

God gave us brains with the expectation we'd use them. While the Bible is inspired by God, it's clearly a work of mankind...a 4000 year mankind.

Jesus didn't negate the OT, but he certainly updated it. Faux Christians cherry-pick the Bible. This is why they quote the OT about killing homosexuals while eating a Shrimp Po'boy or a pull-pork BBQ sammich.

The constitutional question is about whether the posting of them is tantamount to establishing religion.

^ And you double down on lying. The more you post, the more ignorant you become...
If you want an explanation of the 9th commandment you need to understand the Jewish definition it refers to, not the Christian definition. The two are not the same. One deals with legal issues the other a principle...

I never understood why Moses would take tablets written by God and smash them.

Trust me, that is what was on hem

No, He did not. He fulfilled the Law for the Jews and gave us 2.

it's clearly a work of mankind.
Name the man that can foretell the future. Surely, with that ability, he should be renowned.
Tell me who is going to be the President of the USA 20 years from now. If "whats his name" 4,000 years ago, could infallibly predict the future you should be able to too...

It isn't constitutional. Even to just post the commandments in public schools or buildings.

James Madison made a point that any believer of any religion should understand: "the government sanction of a religion was, in essence, a threat to religion.Who does not see,” he wrote, “that the same authority which can establish Christianity, in exclusion of all other religions, may establish with the same ease any particular sect of Christians, in exclusion of all other Sects?”

The constitution is institutional. It does not include Bible commandments.
How to keep the sabbath holy? Close your shops on Sunday, praise God, and rest. <That was the following not so long ago.
Have no other gods, has nothing to do with the constitutional enforcement, but is a personal commitment...

You never responded to my changes to the 10 Commandments
