Yeah...you're making my point for me. US vehicles should be tens of thousands of dollars cheaper than stuff made in Europe, Mexico or East Asia. Instead, they (for the most part) remain much more expensive. Why? The US automakers have raised their price as well.

And US made cars rely on steel and aluminium from Canada, tariffed. And components will cross the Canada-UAS-Mexico borders numerous times before being finally assembled in the US. Those components are tariffed as well.

None of it comes from outside the US. Tariffs are levied on the US importer of the tariffed goods.

Some of them are absorbed by manufacturers and exporters. That means the importer pays less for the product before paying the tariff. Check out the PPI and CPI numbers. They reflect this.

Trump's wild, fluid, constantly changing, often punitive & random, impossible-for-businesses-to-plan-for tariffs -- which have played such a significant role in ruining longstanding global relationships -- are very important to him. He is just assuming that he can take the power to issue tariffs from Congress, and he is fully expecting "his" Supreme Court to let him.
