The Solution to Affordability: Get a Job!

My daughter has diagnosed depression, a condition she inherited from her mother and grandmother. Her grandmother was bipolar, as she was institutionalized and couldn't function in normal life. Her mother was diagnosed with depression, although I could see elements of "highs."
Anyway, she couldn't qualify for the Coast Guard or other military service. She struggled with college classes, and we didn't make a lot of money to be able to fund her for much. So, she's been working retail for many years.
Even though working full time, she struggles to make ends meet and she may be losing her medical insurance due to cost increases.
If it wasn't for me helping her out, she would be out in the streets without a roof over her head. So, she has a job, but not everyone can get a high paying job and as costs almost always rise, rather than go down, I believe that the nation should step in to help out those less fortunate "natural born US citizens."
Not every one can afford everything they want. It has always been like that.

That is reality in todays america. Getting married young is a recipe for disaster. No money saved, no further training in a field or trade, is not the way anymore. Those days are gone. Its simple math. Get trained, work hard, save, get your footings solid. Then maybe think about marrisge and a family. Hope doesnt pay the bills.
“No training in a field or trade.” - BINGO!

Who bothers to get married?
Those that have planned. First, get theaq necessary training or degree to make big big money. After all thats our system. Get as much as one can otherwise others get it. Then work hard and save save save. Live at ho.e and put those $$ away. Have $100 k put away then maybe consider settling down...maybe.

Or work 100 hours per week and dont est.
You do what you got to do. The people whining about affordability are the same ones demanding to have a “good work-life balance”.

Agreed but in todays america one must consider financials first. Getting married young with kids and no money to raise them is a mistake. Not sure if you can comprehend reality.
You have always had to consider financials before you get married.

Those that have planned to do what? Get a degree in psychology, communications, biology? Sadly there are more graduates for those degrees than job openings. So, spend 4+ years getting your degree and get a job at Starbucks as a barista?

So you agree to risk complications for the woman, possible birth defects for the child, etc. in lieu of making money. You couldn't possibly figure out how to support your family (as a young man)? Young men are such cucks today.

Fake reality. It is entirely possible for young folks to live on one income. 50% of them are doing it. Not having to pay for childcare (a huge expense) helps.
Yes yes those men are awful.

Well a uoung man can work in a factory gor $20 per hour. In 30 years he might make $30 per hour. Laughable. At best.

A young man could be a mechanic and make much more. A young man could become a plumber and make a lot of money, etc.

Risk it all, beg, borrow and steal, open your own business and pray you don't fold in the first the month. If you fail at that and don't have the guts to try it all again, join the ******* Peace Corp loser.

Do you realize you are upset at young people being more responsible? Not getting married young without an education? Not having kids they cannot afford is bad now?

Agreed. Do not get martied or have kids before you have 6 figures saved.

I had a secretary once named Marti, but that was years ago. I have been married for almost 43 years. I had three kids and only once in my life did I have that much money, and that was when I retired.

Of course. So they SHOULD take a bunch of years to get that training and then work and save. Then after 20 years or so think about a mate.

You are damn correct that a lot of them are not doing a whole lotta of anything.

This pertains to young people in their 20-30s. Labor participation among this group is at an all-time low. We could speculate on why this is the case (e.g., being raised with an entitlement mentality, etc…).

Also, you have to consider the massive inflation that occurred during the Biden COVID giveaways. This devalued the dollar significantly. People could not pay all their bills and resorted to credit cards and loans. Today, inflation is under control. However, the debt created due to Biden’s inflation disaster has not gone away. These ongoing debt payments take money out of the household budget, making it more difficult to pay for a house and car.

There are 2 ways to remedy this: increase your income and pay off your debt before you complain about affordability.
Trump gave away more money than Biden.

I do love the “get a job” chorus...

the right wing forces you to have a baby now instead of having the fetus aborted...and when you can’t afford a baby in the crib...”get a job”.

Sure, just don't marry an older woman if you want children and a family. Women are on a time line with their eggs. Men, not so much.
