We have one political party that engaged in a Holy War, and another political party that has played a role in creating the conditions that caused it.

Looks to me as though, unless some miracle happens, the short and mid term (who knows about long term) for this "country" will look more like Europe, where there is a much more pronounced difference between the states, as you move from state to state. So there would be red states and blue states, and the laws in each will have their own specific color.

E Pluribus Unum may indeed be dead, and it will have been by suicide.

Since the advent of 24-hour news broadcasting - and a never-ending stream of partisan op-ed pieces - the divisions have grown much worse...

All of the major cable news broadcasting companies make their money by fanning the flames of partisanship and faux outrage and mob action...

Maybe it's time to begin regulating such broadcasters in some way to force More News and Less Opinion... but that would be damned tricky to pull off properly.

Actually EU runs better...

The EU constitution is 15 times longer than US one and way younger... This gives a lot less wriggle room for judges interpretation.. I would say no one would know a judge on the ECJ (European Court of Justice), don't know there beliefs, are they conservative or liberal... They just read law, if law wrong, change law..

US political system has got so bad that getting new laws through is very difficult and it normally get compromised to the point where the teeth is taken out of it and it just goes down as apolitical win rather than actual change..

US real problem is that the Media people what they want to think (rather than challenge them) or they switch channels until they get one that will confirm there beliefs... EU is trying to take this on right now, Russia and other bad faith actors are exploiting this with disinformation(we experience that daily on this forum)...

Yeah, that's a good point. There would certainly be a rough period of adjustment as we work through the various bugs.

Finland will be a great addition to NATO. Moscow horde is doing a great job in uniting so many countries. Please remember: Ukraine is occupied in part because it is not a member of NATO, not because it is. Belarus is not a NATO member and is partly occupied as well.

Whatever happens with Ukraine/Russia do not compare many Americans with the suffering they in that area of the world have gone through. We bitch when the electricity is out for several hours. And with this President and in areas like California that is happening or will happen.
