The SAVE America Act is dead

I don't understand why he would not even bring the bill the floor for a vote. Let's get everyone opposed to Voter ID on the record. Would be huge campaign tool for the midterms.

For Senate Majority Leader Thune to get the bill to the floor for a vote, would require getting a Cloture Vote.
The Cloture Vote can be Filibustered.

Senate Majority Leader Thune most likely will not challenge with the Filibuster, because Senators might require that they actually conduct the Filibuster, which would result in allowing members of the Senate to stand there and talk about whatever they wanted to (it does not have to apply to the bill) for as long as they can remain standing before surrendering their time on the floor.

That would most likely result in endless hours of grandstanding and ridiculous nonsense, and if Senate Majority Leader Thune does not expect the bill to pass, we could avoid some ridiculous political bullshit by not calling for a Cloture Vote.

That is why they want to get rid of the Filibuster, and why the threat of a Filibuster is usually enough to forgo the Cloture Vote.

Senate Leader Thune throws cold water on filibuster change in push for voter-ID bill

Key Points
  • Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., on Tuesday said he supported the SAVE America Act, but that there is not enough support in the Senate to change the filibuster and clear a path for the controversial bill.
  • The House is expected to vote this week on the legislation, which would require people to prove their citizenship to register to vote and show ID at the ballot box.
  • GOP hardliners have called for a return to the “standing filibuster,” which requires Congress members to be physically present and talking on the Senate floor to delay legislation.

Yeah, like the Senate would do anything to save America. 😐

They are all on the same team, and it isn’t team USA....Why isn't "Uniparty" a recognized political party affiliation yet?

They won't even act on a 85/15 issue.....Well, back to naming walking trails in national parks I guess. :dunno:
The senate likes the filibuster. They wouldn’t inflict on themselves the loss of the filibuster as a tool.

Should it be available as a tool? Probably not. But the procedures of the Senate are fully up to the Senate. So I doubt it’s gonna go away.

?? West Virginia has never required documentary proof of U.S. citizenship (such as a passport or birth certificate) in order to register to vote.

Same difference. You vote against Cloture, you're voting against Voter ID.

Odd, I said I provided my birth certificate when I registered.

The problem is some states, including my own, have decided to turn a blind eye to any election fraud as long as it suits their interest. That violates my right as a Federal Citizen in Federal Elections.

Damn right I want the federal government to make sure I retain my right to vote as well as the sanctity of my vote.

There is no sizable election fraud in your state or any other state dumbfuck. And you’ll never get to zero election fraud.... You’re just taking part in the #1 conserve-hate-ive passtime...looking for something to be upset about.

Total bullshit:

You need a SS #. To get one of those you have to provide the following:

A birth certificate.

So yeah, you have to be a US citizen to register to vote in WVA. They require it.

Well, ALl I can say is that you state has never required a birth certificate to register. Perhaps they simply used used it as a form of ID, but it wasn't to prove citizenship.

I don't believe it. I know I can't prove it, but your side wants it so we can't prove it.

You cannot take the Cloture Vote until after the Filibuster, and if you desire not to go through a pile of crap to get there then that adds complications.

When they actually get to the Cloture Vote you would have a record in at least that regard (does not mean the bill will actually make it to the floor), so you are correct about that. So, it comes down to how long do you want Senators to talk about whatever they want (that is not required to be in reference to the bill), just for the Cloture Vote.

Here is a video of when Senator Cory Booker broke the filibuster individual speech record with 25 Hours and 5 minutes.

I provided my birth certificate and likely my D.L.

Here is the thing......states could provided a photo ID voters registration card today. They don't. Why is that?

When I go to vote they could ask me to look up and smile and make me a photo registration card. They don't. Why is that?
I think we do need some form nationalization regarding voting laws so that the most important aspects are adhered to nationally, not locally. Right now we can't trust blue states not to provide photo ID voters registration cards (as per your suggestion) to everyone, legal or not. They already do that with driver's licenses so some of the blue states wouldn't have a problem just giving everyone voting cards. As far as going through all of that process on voting day, that would be overwhelming time consuming. That's why you get that stuff out of the way by registering beforehand and then merely showing your ID at voting time.

NO state does it.

Nope. You can supply a record from the Catholic School you attended in Italy to establish your age.

While not true, just for giggles, why would an extremely red state do this?

15th post
There are many blue states which only require an illegal to check a box stating they are eligible to vote and we just take them at their word on that. There isn't time to check them all to see if they are lying or not.

Raspberries.

It's called a "silent fillibuster" they don't have to get up and speak in the floor anymore.
