No I think at the end of the day the Jews left Jerusalem because they no longer had a temple there and moved on to Medina (a substantial Jewish settlement) once again encroaching on someone else's land. The Muslims tried to befriend them but the Jewish did not want to befriend the Muslims, so they fought, and the Jews moved on , to where who knows. Then the Muslims took control of Jerusalem and built a mosque and dome of the rock, which has been standing ever since. So for centuries the Jews didn't care about Jerusalem one bit. Only as a last resort did they think of returning to Palestine in the late 1800's , since in no place were they wanted. Such is the beginning of Zionism and relearning of the spoken Hebrew language. The Israelites never had control of all of Palestine, when the Romans came the land was called Judea which the capital was Jerusalem. They also stole the land in the first place from the Canaanites.
Try reading the history and you will see that the majority of the Jews were evicted from Jerusalem by the romans. Then Mohamed tried to make them worship him as god and convert to islam which they refised to do so he had them mass murdered. The arab muslims took over Jerusalem with the Jews already living there, they built the dome of the rock and then promptly forgot about it. Same with the al aqsa mosque and they both deteriorated to such an extent that they became ruins. The muslims re-built both after an earthquake that destroyed them completely, only to once again ignore them. They were destroyed a second time by an earthquake and were finally re-built in the style we see today. There has been a Jewish presence in Jerusalem for over 2,500 years and they have worshipped at the western wall since 70 C.E.
The arab muslims only had partial control of a small part of Palestine from 690 C.E. till 1099 C.E. and have not owned or controlled the land since. Now they are trying to steal the land like they have all the other lands they infest. It will be a case of forgetting about Jerusalem if they ever manage to take it again
