In the video clip preceeding your post we see Trump looking over his right shoulder, turn his head slightly to body center and then reach for his ear.
Clearly, what struck him came from his right side and right side of the stage. And had he not moved his head a fraction of a second earlier, what struck him a glancing hit might have been more centered into his head.
A very lucky moment for him, some of us would say.

The Shooter was a Marksman and at that range, had he wanted to, he would have put the round dead center. And all Military Shooters hit the body with the first shot and alternate to the head if the victim is wearing body armor. It's called "Triple Tap" or "Double Tap". The shooter fired 4 rounds. I think he was sacrificed to tRump's benefit.
