The Left - “The death penalty is wrong”

How many innocent people are you willing to kill to sate your bloodlust?
That was your question. My reply is none. Then I asked a question and you deflected. Plus I have no blood lust. You are wrong to lie about me.

The 200+ people who have been released from death row because new evidence proved they didn't do the crime would agree with you. We have proven we can't be sure of a person's guilt. Until we can demonstrate that no innocent people will be executed, we shouldn't execute
Sometimes we CAN be sure. Is there any doubt about Thomas Crooks, Dylan Roof, Siran Siran, or Nidal Hasan ? In those cases, execution is correct.

Im on the conservative side of the political spectrum and I dont like the death penalty because "Thou shall not murder". 2 wrongs do not make a right.
But you ignored an eye for an eye? My major concern is for those convicted by citizens who were wrong to convict them.

How many innocent people are you willing to kill by refusing to ban automobiles?
The world's entire economy is built on transportation of people and good. Without it, society would cease to exist. Execution is a barbaric act that does nothing to improve anybody's life. Your comparison is still too absurd to take seriously.

We were just as sure that every person executed was as guilty as those you listed. We don't execute people thinking they nly might have done the crime. We believe each of them is as guilty as the rest. We only find out later if they were innocent.

You're saying that even though thousands of innocents are killed each year by "transportation", the benefits are greater than the harm?

Execution is a barbaric act that does nothing to improve anybody's life.

You don't think it acts as a deterrent?

What about the ones that really were guilty?

We spend millions each year on efforts to increase the safety of cars. We have yet to become completely successful, but we have made great strides toward ending traffic fatalities. Those efforts are continuous, but yes, there will continue to be deaths from auto crashes until someone figures out how to continue our society without autos.

Perhaps there is some deterrent, but the majority of murders occur as a result of impulse or sudden rage where the murderer doesn't even pre-consider the repercussions of their act. On the other hand, premeditated murders often plan their acts and hope to avoid being caught which would minimize the deterrent posed by execution. That leaves only a small portion of murderers. As a result, the possibility of execution is only a small deterrent for the crime.

This guy is guilty, so let's kill all of them because some of the others might be guilty too. That is unquestionably a great example of right-wing heartlessness.

You're willing to let tens of thousands die because auto safety isn't perfect?
If it isn't perfect, how can you allow so many deaths? These people would still
be alive if we all walked.

Perhaps there is some deterrent,

Perhaps? Some?

but the majority of murders occur as a result of impulse or sudden rage

The minority could, maybe, be deterred?

That leaves only a small portion of murderers. As a result, the possibility of execution is only a small deterrent for the crime.

If we could save one single victim from being killed, we should to it. It's the civilized thing to do. Not using that deterrent is barbaric if it results in any innocent deaths.

You're awfully high and mighty for someone who is okay with over 3 million vehicle deaths in the US.

As I've said multiple times, comparing the use of automobiles to execution is absurd.

A small amount could possibly be deterred at the expense of killing innocent people. Killing innocent people is not representative of our country.

Never said I was OK with auto deaths. That's why countless millions have been and will be spent to improve safety, at least until you come up with some way to continue our society without autos.

It's a simple matter to continue our society without taking the chance of killing innocent people.

Right. Because 1 innocent death is unforgivable, but millions is no big deal.
