Discussing some of the lines from some of the best songwriters....

Gordon Lightfoot - Describing a memory of a prostitute:
I can see her lying back in her satin dress
In a room where you do what you don't confess

I don't think I could come up with those two lines in a 1000 years.... "in a room where you do what you don't confess" - love that line.

Gary Moore--Empty rooms

Loneliness is your only friend
A broken heart that just won't mend is the price you pay
It's hard to take when love grows old
The days are long and the nights turn cold when it fades away

You hope that she will change her mind
But the days drift on and on
You'll never know the reason why - she's gone

Empty rooms - where we learn to live without love
Empty rooms - where we learn to live without love

You see her face in every crowd
You hear her voice but you're still proud so you turn away
You tell yourself that you will be strong
But your heart tells you - this time you're wrong

Empty rooms - where we learn to live without love

Glenn Frey
From Take it Easy

Well, I'm running down the road trying to loosen my load
Got a world of trouble on my mind
Lookin' for a lover who won't blow my cover
She's so hard to find

Lookin' for a lover who won't blow my cover

Love that, and very 1970s "man's man" who doesn't want anyone to know he is romantic

Carlos Santana..Frank Zappa. Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins are both great songwriters. Walter Becker and Donald Fagan _ the first 6 or 7 Steely Dan albums ( I honestly can't think of one song I don't like ) of course the Beatles And The Rolling Stones
....Billy Joel , Carole King , Stevie Wonder, SRV....
Fleetwood Mac...Neil Peart ( the first 10 or 12 rush albums had a bunch of great songs. For heavy metal Hetfield, Mustaine, Ozzy ....I could go on and on.

P.S. Oh how I miss so much the way too many who are no longer here.

Northern Calloway (David of the Sesame Street children's show)
Steve Sanders of the Oak Ridge Boys
Billy Joe Royal
Hal Ketchum
Joe South

Roger Waters....

Wish you were here. The song was written about former band member Syd Barret who died from a drug overdose.
An amazing lyrical song about his anger at Syd for allowing himself to get pulled in and fooled by the attraction of drugs.

I think the best line is this one:
Did they get you to trade
Your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange
A walk-on part in the war
For a leading role in a cage?
The last statement - Did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a leading role in a cage.
Powerful sentence about his friend Syd, seeking comfort from the troubles of the world in the soothing high of drugs not realizing it is imprisoning him at the same time.

Songwriters: Alex North / Hyman Zaret

"Lonely rivers sigh
"Wait for me, wait for me"
I'll be coming home, wait for me"

Incredible line.

Unchained Melody.......................first in a movie sung by a black dude in prison. Now sung by ....heck...how many covers???
