This morning on the Smerconish show (on CNN), he showed in a clear way that this country is being torn apart by the extremes of both parties, In his show, he showed (using polls) that Centrism is what most Americans want. Compromises by both parties is what has worked in the past and would be the solution to today's problems

A New Centrism Is Rising in Washington - The New York Times
May 19, 2024 — The very notion of centrism is anathema to many progressives and conservatives, conjuring a mushy moderation. But the ...

I am in total agreement!

What say you?

Centrism used to include:

  • "The era of big government is over." - Clinton
  • "We can't have half a million people pouring over the border." - Obama
  • "Marriage is Between a Man and a Woman" - Joe Biden
  • "The abuse of women and girls is the most pervasive and unaddressed human rights violation on Earth" - Jimmy Carter
  • "People are angry and dispirited about government because of a failure to do something about crime." - Schumer
  • "...We believe in equal opportunity for all Americans" - JFK
  • "The rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God.” - JFK

Some D's have correctly been identified as having taken extreme positions on trans people resulting in broad brush accusations against the party generally.
I think those who "correctly" make that identification are mainly the ones trying to restrict other freedoms as well. So while they can make that identification, they want everybody to accept their bigotry as being in the center and not to broadbrush accuse them of such bigotry. I'm talking about Republicans and hw they try to mainstream such bigotry, the example is how they are trying to make everybody see Charlie Kirk.

It still does, but not in the way you want to distort it. It's time you left the far right imagination land.

I don't know what "Centrism" means. If it just means, Dems get to do some of their shitty agenda items and Republican get to do some of their shitty agenda items, I can't support it. What I do support is consensus. And it's not the same thing

Consensus is more about what we don't do. In particular, we don't pass nation-wide policies that a large minority of Americans despise. If we can't come up with a policy that everyone, or most everyone, can accept - then that policy shouldn't be forced via the law. Period.

We've been trying to legislate equality since the 1960's. Inequality is a cultural thing. Born poor and uneducated, remain poor and uneducated. We don't want to "get above our 'raisins'."

Most inequality stems from bad choices and bad luck.
“It would neither be true or honest to say that the Negros problem is what it is because he is innately inferior or because he is basically lazy and listless or because he has not lifted himself by his own bootstraps. To find the origins of the Negro problem we must turn to the white man’s problem.”
-Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

You posted a bunch of malarkey.

The worst choices that have been made began with slavery. Then, whites continued making bad choices when they implemented Jim Crow. These things legislated inequality. Even after the Civil Rights Act, there have been whites who up to this day, still try denying equal opportunity t non white people. What is a cultural thing is white backlash to anything that has attempted to provide true equality. These decisions, made primarily by whites, result in inequality. So maybe for whites, inequality is due to their bad choices, but the root cause of the problems blacks and every other non white group have, including the large majority of Asians, is white racism.

Period.

What we see now is minority rule in this country. The majority of the peope do not want the right-wing bullshit being dished out. There can be no consensus between Democrats and the white supremacists who control the Republican Party. For there to be a consensus, people like Miller, Bannon, Vought etc., must be removed from leadership and their ideas thrown away.

No, we don't. Another thing Democrats will never admit. And they won't win again until they do.

Then we can't have a government. Do you want anarchy?

Personal rights areoffthe table. Everyone is equal in our nation , at least they're suppose to be. That means no more attacks on women and minoroties. Everything else is on the table..

Seems you all are the ones attacking women.

On everything, as long as it is within the rules of the Constitution
For once we agree. Limited federal government to its constitutional role.

Issues of true equality and equal opportunity are not negotiable. So, assuming victimhood and trying to change laws and policies when all data shows it's not so is not up for discussion.

Hey, you'll never hear me say no to equality. The states can implement any laws they want to bring about equality, as long as its constitutional and doesnt infringe on anyone elses rights.

Wrong. But white supremacist activity is palatable to the right.
There is no white supremacism. There is however the direction from the whites you hate that told us how to create comforts in human lives. And you are destroying it. We have experimented in different economic systems. It is getting the right balance of social agendas and capitalism that may work best for mature nations like ours.

Not to mention that politics that were centrist ten years ago are now called "far right".

What these rank-and-file Democrats are calling centrist these days is actually the mid point between socialism and communism.
When statues commemorating historical American figures art torn down while the statue of a Russian communist, Vladimir Lenin, is allowed to stand in Seattle, the left has been allowed too much power.
