Joe Biden said, “I am the Democratic party right now”. He also said “Antifa is just an idea”. Biden did not say that left-wing Antifa is the Democratic party right now, but he indicated that Antifa’s ideas and methods are acceptable going forward. Biden spent more time trying to link Trump to right wing groups than condemning politically motivated violence in cities. It is doubtful that any minds were changed by that debate.
Oddly, Biden cited the FBI as proof that Antifa is just an idea. The Same FBI that is under investigation along with the Department of Justice right now for using Russian intelligence propaganda to try to take Trump down in the first election. Chris Wallace, the moderator, was apparently unaware of the Durham Probe so he did not press Biden on it. Wallace seemed more concerned with warning Trump not to interrupt while Biden was calling a Trump a “clown” in interruptions.
Calling Antifa just an idea while cities burn with BLM riots apparently escaped Wallace as well. Most Americans are aware that fascism and Communism were just ideas before they wreaked havoc on the world. Someone should tell Wallace that every movement begins as an idea that is forced onto the scene with violence and destruction. Biden’s marching orders were obviously loaded with warnings not to offend leftist terrorism and Wallace let it slide.
Wallace was clearly unprepared for this debate and asked no tough questions. One issue raised by Trump was his elimination of the Individual Mandate, a forced requirement of government to punish people who do not take part in the Affordable Care Act. The Individual Mandate was government action to penalize Americans with fines for not purchasing a product offered by insurance companies. There were no government requirements requiring people to “not” purchase products like tobacco and alcohol that destroy the health of individuals while the industries that produce the dangerous products lobby Congress excessively.
Wallace did not bring up the fact that Congress crafted special exemptions and subsidies for itself to escape the Individual Mandate that the majority of Americans cannot use. Biden accused Trump of attacking something that was a failure from the start and most Americans know it.
The debate was a side show that accomplished little other than demonstrating the division of the nation over government control of the private lives of individuals. The next one should address that.
