But Putin is no longer in a position to need to. Had Biden tried after the war started, probably, but in the interim, Putin has shored up everything that none of Biden's economic sanctions, etc., matter to him anymore. I don't see that Trump really has much hand now to bargain with other than to save lives of his own Russian soldiers which I'm not sure he cares about. Made worse by the fact that Putin knows that the EU was never really deeply committed in supporting Ukraine forever and the USA certainly isn't after already being into it for perhaps 250 billion dollars.

So if Trump comes out of this with a peace deal where both Ukraine and we get something really meaningful out of it, I'll count that as a win.

The US spends HUGE amounts of money on its military. Why? Because it MAKES money for the US.

The invasion of Iraq made the US so much money. Why? Because Hugo Chavez was attempting to turn OPEC into a place that tightly controlled the price of oil. This would have cost the US trillions of dollars. So the US went to Iraq, invaded, took out Gaddafi in Libya, heavy sanctions against Iran and Venezuela and attempted to depose Hugo Chavez too.

The US has made so much money from Latin America because other countries don't really dare step on the US's feet. But take away the US's power, and Latin America will go Chinese, Africa will go Russian and the US will be left paying more for oil and other things.
