Debate Now The Absurdity of 'Woke'

Honorable are those trying to live their lives and their faith to the best of their ability, trying to be a positive influence in the world and do no harm.

Dishonorable would be, among other things, attempting to destroy or disparage the faith of those people, accuse them of what they are not guilty, presuming to be superior to them in behavior/intellect/values.
It's not so bad that half of Christians get it wrong on their bibles. It's that they're not honest enough to ask the important questions!

Is it 'evolution' or is it 'Genesis'? Are you honest? Have you awoken yet?

I'm objecting to their failure on the most important question there could possibly be on their beliefs. Evolution vs. creation!

Honest??

They can't be honest to themselves because they have to navigate through a book full of lies and contradictions.

Being 'woke' is in making a choice. That come even before answering to making the wrong choice and remaining dead to superstitious nonsense, instead of having the courage to be 'woke'

Do you believe your bible literally? Or have you awoken to the church's truth?

Or are you still trying to hide behind accusations of trolling?
I believe to try to destroy the faith of honest believers is evil.

What some pope did 80+ years ago is irrelevant to the current pope or Catholics now. And your arguments plus questioning what woke is after arguing all these pages, your claim to be 'better informed' is seriously debatable.
It's a permanent stain on the Catholic church's reputation. It needs to be reminded of regularly.

What is woke? I've offered my answer as it pertains to the CC and the Pope.

As I suggested, they're divided roughly down the middle on what they choose to believe.

And you are afraid to say. Until you do there's nothing to debate or on which to disagree.

Odds are 50/50 that you're a woke Chriatian who agrees with me on the bible being an outdated collection of allegories!

Those Christians who believe their bible to be literally true, will consider 'woke' Christians like you to be evil.

I don't go that far! I'll call it dishonesty on not being able to face the fear of saying. Our ding got caught in the same trap!

I wish you knew how much good work the Catholics in my parish and our sister parish do. Knights of Columbus are always collecting donations and goods for infant and child care. I donate significantly every month to a maternity home that gives needy mothers an alternative to aborting their babies, and my assets will go to them when I die. I spend at least an hour every day making beautiful jewelry-quality rosaries for a monastery that sells them to raise funds for a new chapel, and I also donate rosaries to a convalescent and rehab center, and to a group of African Catholics.

I just saw these folks and I'm going to guess there's a good chance they're Catholic-based. Maybe not.

Rosaries need to be activated by the Pope, or they don't work.

And now the Pope is pro-choice and woke!

That's not absurd, it's called getting involved.

He's also signed off on 'evolution beliefs' being o.k.

There are many devout Christians of all disciplines doing that kind of ministries and certainly Catholic groups are among them. Catholic Charities does amazing good throughout the world receiving top ratings from groups who evaluate these groups.

When my mother, a lifelong Methodist, died, the service was in a tiny Methodist Church in a very small town near Albuquerque. But despite her being a Methodist, the much MUCH larger Catholic Church in that town took the time and effort to prepare a wonderful meal for those attending that service. It is that kind of Christian love that gives me hope that there is far more goodness than evil in the world.

One of my favorite jobs ever was with a Catholic hospital in southeast Kansas. They never made me feel like an odd person out because I was not Catholic. The Administrator, Sister Mary dePaul, was one of the most gracious, competent, caring people I would ever hope to meet. The assistant administrator was a man, a layman, but was also great at his job. The financial supervisor, Sister Geneva, was a real character who took me under her wing to help me learn my job, half payroll officer and also facilitated the other half of my job which was internal communications and community P.R.

That was during the time the Catholic Church dropped a lot of the former saints from the saint category. The Asst Adm Joe was fond of exclaiming when he was frustrated or a problem came up "Saints preserve us!" And Sister Geneva would quietly quip, "There aren't enough saints left to preserve us, Joe." :)

These were very good people.

I suppose it is possible for a person to be good people and also 'woke'. But at least the vast majority of good people I've known over the years have not been woke.

I am a member of the Altar Society, the group which, among other things, provides the meal that follows the funerals in our church. I will have to find out if we've ever done the same service for other churches in locally, although as far as I know, the only other church in my small town is a sizeable Lutheran church, much larger than our church. Interesting question.

I have never been made to feel like an outsider in my church. I am a member of what our priest calls the Remnant, or the core group of the faithful who attend Mass every day and are responsible for most of the non-technical upkeep of the church.

When I moved back to my hometown, I needed to make a visit to the emergency room of the hospital, and I chose the hospital I was born in 70 years ago, where I was treated like trash. Later I found that the one other hospital, the Catholic hospital, was far more embracing. (I was not Catholic when I moved here, and I also had never associated the two hospitals with religious affiliation when I was growing up here.)

I had never heard of the church dropping some of the Saints! So that was after Vatican 2? I wonder which Saints I have never met! I shall have to ask some of the older (80's and 90's) parishioners. Getting to know the Saints has been such a fascinating journey! I do know that the Vatican has started pooh-poohing some of the Marian Apparitions, refusing to verify some of them.

Thanks for sharing your warm feelings that come from memorable experiences with people of faith!

What an absurd notion, that a Rosary might not "work". Mine works fine and dandy. I can count:

One Apostles' Creed
One Our Father
Three Hail Mary's
One Glory Be
Five Decades, each of which consists of one Mystery, one Our Father, Ten Hail Mary's, one Glory Be and one Fatima Prayer
One Hail Holy Queen
One Rosary Prayer
One St. Michael Prayer......
every time I pick up my Rosary. Never fails.

How do you know if your Rosary is not working?

You are so misinformed. I can't wait to tell my priest that there are people who think that Rosaries have to be "activated" or they don't work.

Thank you for so much entertainment!

It was actually during the 1960's, probably before you were born or you were too young to remember it when the list of bonafide saints was removed.

Most Protestants still doggedly hang on to their St. Cristopher medals though even though he was one of the ones removed though. :)

Just one of those interesting things from church history that really has little bearing on people of faith in the here and now. But I do hope the largest number of Catholics, among other Christians, will continue to hold the line and reject the evil creep of "wokeism' that has a goal of changing our culture entirely and that would include destroying the faith of the faithful.

My Lutheran friend recites the same Apostles' Creed as I do, with one word changed. She states she "believes in the Communion of Saints", just as I do, but when I ask her which Saints, I get a blank look!

Thank you for that link! I will learn a lot from it.

Yes, the sixties was when Vatican 2 happened.

No, the majority of Catholics will not hold the line and it's distressing, but it won't affect those of us who do. There are enough of them in my church that we have hope. And there are several Catholic movements -- Sedevacantists and several other groups -- that are some serious line holders! They get called all kinds of names.

I'm a Trad -- which is Traditional Latin Mass Roman Catholic.

EDIT -- Saint Nicholas! We still observe his feast day, Dec. 6, thanks to my wonderful, normal priest! It's bizarre -- there was an ad for the postal system in Norway, in which Santa Claus was a homosexual, and when I sputtered my indignation when I mentioned that Santa Claus was a Saint, some idiot on this board disagreed with me! YIKES!

BTW, St. Nicholas Parish in the next county is woke. How's that for irony?

So you 'do' believe the pope is woke!

Nope. His brother is a huge Trump supporter.

It's very easy to see that His Holiness is a very based conservative Catholic. As soon as the left cult starts understanding this, the din is going to become delightfully loud!

Bring it on.
