enate Minority leader Chuck Schumer says that there’s only one party that wants to shut the government down. He’s right: it’s only Democrats who won’t allow the Senate a few more weeks at current spending levels to agree on a new budget.
The shutdown highlights three weaknesses undermining the Democrat Party as we head toward next year’s midterm elections.

First, the left wing of the party is running the show. Schumer is terrified of being primaried by New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC); his obstinance is a matter of survival, not conscience.​

Second, President Trump has pushed Democrats to burrow into their far-left rabbit holes by occupying the all-powerful center.​

Third, Democrats are pushing endlessly to spend more money; voters think that’s a mistake.​

Schumer, battered by angry Democrats after he worked with the Republicans in March to keep the government running, learned his lesson. He was accused of “surrendering” to Republicans by Democrats furious at the impotence of their party. After he cast that fateful vote, many on the left pushed for progressive darling Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) to challenge Schumer in the 2028 Senate primary.
This is not an idle threat. In the fury that followed the March face-off over spending, polling by left-leaning Data for Progress found that “Democratic voters nationwide want him to fight harder against President Donald Trump and the Republican agenda.”

Democrats’ leftward lunge may have endeared the party to progressive billionaires, but it’s unlikely to improve the party’s image or win back the White House in 2028. Progressives are notoriously anti-police and anti-ICE; they favor open borders and extending benefits to non-citizens.
That is not where the country is. Trump was elected to close the border, crack down on crime, boost domestic energy production, strengthen our military and reverse woke measures that undermine traditional American values like meritocracy and individualism. He has been doing all of those things, causing hysteria on the left.

A survey from the right-leaning CATO Institute earlier this year showed Americans estimate that 59 cents of every dollar spent by the federal government is wasted. That’s why 89 percent “support an audit and evaluation of all federal government spending to identify and eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse.” Additionally, CATO reported that “62 percent support cutting the number of federal employees to reduce spending.”
Those common-sense Americans may get their wish. Trump has warned Democrats that he may take advantage of the current shutdown to terminate a sizeable number of federal employees. Just think: Ocasio-Cortez may have set in motion the biggest downsizing of the federal government in history. Now that would be a reason to cheer the shutdown. 

Commentary:
Additionally, Democrats have absolutely no sense of humor. Amy Klobuchar saying, “That’s not funny!” at the hilarious Trump’s memes of Dollar Store Obama in mustache and sombrero.
Democrats are thrashing about, destroying themselves. Both wings are nothing without the other and they can’t even compromise amongst themselves, let alone with Republicans. Then the fact that DSA Democrats have swung further Left as portrayed by Mamdani's bid for Mayor in NYC.
Why would Democrats truly believe they could succeed in forcing Trump and the GOP to make taxpayers provide free healthcare to illegal aliens.
In my section of the woods, the government is it's fifth day of shut down and the sky overhead is a beautiful clear blue—not a cloud in the sky.

I can honestly say that I've had "Yellow Fever" since puberty.

But my wife and I have only been together for three years.

I first voted Republican in 1980 because I was looking at a career in the military, and Reagan was good for the military. By the time I left the military in 1992, I was disillusioned with Bush, but I voted for him and Dole because Clinton was such a sleaze.

I voted for Bush Jr. twice, but by 2008, it became clear to me (After the fourth Republican recession I lived through) that Republicans don't care about working folks like me. In 2008, they bailed out the bankers, and the rest of us were left to fend for ourselves, essentially.

But the real kicker was in 2012, when the Republicans nominated Romney. Because deep down, I hate Mormons and always want to see Mormons fail.

Now, yes, there were always elements of the GOP that made me wince. I became an atheist in the mid-80s, and never had much use for the Evangelical crazy undercurrent of the GOP. I was also never really entirely comfortable with the undertones of racism and homophobia, but being a white, straight male, I just didn't treat it like it was my problem.

I would love to say I turned on Bush because he lied us into a war or because he utterly failed to help the people of NOLA during Katrina. But those things didn't really affect me. It was only when his gross incompetence began to affect my life that I started to rethink things.

You became a democrat for purely selfish reasons and now want to criticize others for acting altruistically. Got it.

The political process and fiscal structure needs remodeling. If at the start, say the education budget was set, then the education department should just automatically get that each year. Then let the politicians squabble over the increases/decreases. But at least education keeps running. Just seems a bizarre set up to me.

Has anyone looked at their demands, otherwise looked to see how twisted they truly are ? You do know that in the past the Democrats were talking constantly about bringing in other nation's to help them bring stability back to this nation, otherwise that if they don't get their way within it, then they are willing to go global in hopes to do so right ??

That was not caused by republicans. Bush went to congress 8 times trying to avoid any recession. They said Bush was wrong. He was right. As to your idea it was Bush bailing out banks, it was the Federal Reserve, not Bush.
