Oil companies price their products at what the price will be, not what it currently is. The gasoline in your tank was bought on the market weeks ago. The current price is set by what it costs the company to buy more oil.

My wife once worked at gas station/convenience store temporarily and they would get calls to raise their prices in the middle of the day. The gas had been in their tanks in the ground for a week or more. Where do you think that extra price increase went? It goes to buy more oil at a higher price.

Did you ever take a class in government or economics? It apparently did not take if you did. I taught those classes in high schools for nearly 20 years. The economic controls you are describing is called communism where the state controls all means of production. You would feel right at home in Cuba, Venezuela, China, or the old Soviet Union.
