The 10 Richest U.S. Presidents

What is interesting, all of them were Democrats except Washington. If you look at the wealthiest people in Congress today, it's still the Dems. They have been "fighting for the people" for over 200 years, and got rich doing it.

Don't forget presidential wannabe's who could not get elected to be dog catchers, but claim to be 'leaders' who got immensely rich by racial shakedowns and not paying their taxes.

You know, like the phony "reverends" Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, who have not performed anything a reverend is supposed to perform in living memory.

Uhm, no.

Theodore Roosevelt, Herbert Hoover and James Madison are also on that list.

Teddy and Hoover were definitely Republicans, and James Madison was the co-founder of the Democratic-Republican Party, as it was called then. He also penned the Federalist Papers, practically a must-read these days among Tea Partiers. No doubt were Madison alive today, he would be a Republican.

Washington, our first President, had no political party.

You are not very good at actually reading things, now are you....

So, now that I caught you in a blatant lie, gonna fess up?

There's a problem here. Several of the pre-modern presidents on the list were conservatives, even though they did not belong to the Republican Party.

Democrats who say that the last president to pay off the debt was "a Democrat, Andrew Jackson," for example, are historically illiterate. Jackson was a staunch conservative and would view the modern Democratic Party as an abomination.

In addition to the other points raised here, the figures are way off. JFK inherited only $10 million from his father, and was well known for not living within his means, partly because of Jackie. Even Ted Kennedy was worth more than JFK. As for Jefferson being on the list, he died deeply in debt, and was kept afloat by the charity of his friends in his later years. Teddy Roosevelt lost most of his inheritance on a ranch he bought in the Dakota territory, and was able to only partly recover through the sale of the books he wrote. Washington was land rich, but due to the fact that he did not accept a salary for most of his public service, was frequently unable to pay his bills, often for years. Before the Revolutionary War, many London merchants froze his credit for non payment. FDR was wealthy, but very frugal. he continued to wear shirts with replaceable collars long after they were out of fashion, because he didn't like to have to buy a new shirt. Anyone who has ever toured Warm Springs can see how modestly he lived.

Jackson was also a man with a serious gambling problem. Fortunately, he usually bet on the right horse.

If politicial leaders are supposed to represent their constiuents, why are they all multi-millionaires?
I don't mind politicians who've made a lot of money before going into government positions. What I hate are people like Harry Ried who went in with very little money and have somehow turned a government job into millions in net worth.

I believe the real list of the richest Presidents differs much. I guess present and previous Presidents will be at the top.

Since when is being wealthy a crime?
But like a previous poster said, there is a difference between entering office wealthy and making your fortune WHILE in public office.
