Thanks Obama - You Vet Hating **********

How much is your yearly premium for Tricare?

Now or later this year when I'm retired?

Now it's nothing. When I retire it will be $460/yr.

That's still a pretty good rate, even if some perscriptions are higher. I'm not sure where people get the free medical care for life thing from, I don't believe I was offered that. FWIW I pay $400 per month for my families health insurance (over $520 counting dental and vision too) working as a civilian for the DoD. Once I retire from the Guard, I believe I still have to wait until I turn 60 before I can purchase Tricare. Hopefully it will still be relatively inexpensive by the time I get there.

I agree with everything you wrote.

The being promised "free healthcare for life" is nothing but bullshit. Itw as never promised, some people just assumed that that's what they'd get, and they were wrong.

It was NEVER 'free' - nobody was just giving it to us. Perhaps that's part of the misunderstanding here? I wasn't speaking of the 'free' part, but of the 'healthcare for life' aspect.

Now that they've started kicking around 'means testing' and other ideas on limiting access to the health care - a great many of us retirees are getting very nervous. Particularly those who do NOT live within a couple of hours' access to a VA facility.

Additional enrollment to our Tricare plan as administered by one of MA's best HMO's has already been halted.

To hold down our expenses in future, we are planning to move into a 'life care' community soon after we retire. They do NOT include medical coverage for 'independent living' residents (and do not accept people directly into 'assisted' residence, either).

Any major change in TRICARE could leave us unable to cover our health insurance but committed to the life care community.... I don't think our concern is unreasonable, especially given some of the 'plans' which have been floated regarding TRICARE.

Welcome to the world.

Yes, we had to wait until the husband turned 60 to get on TRICARE - that included the 5 years running of un/under-employment during which we nearly went bankrupt just paying our own medical premiums (over $900/MO for the family). We didn't dare let coverage lapse because the breadwinner had already had 2 angioplasties and any time he has chest pain he's supposed to report to the nearest ER for a full work-up ($10K or more) to avoid the heart attack he's been dodging for close to 20 years now.

His first angioplasty came about a month after he ran past the 20-ish troops doing PT, so it's hardly that he didn't keep himself in shape. Just in case anyone was going to wonder.

AC, you appear to be of the impression that however the Government chooses to restrict or remove benefits from enlisted military retirees 'to balance the budget' is just fine? Or am I misunderstanding your POV?

Tuition assistance just got taken away in the Air Force, alot of people are upset about that.

Yes it's fine with me.

As long as other programs are cut, the military should not be a sacred cow. I'm not crying about my government handouts beiong cut or crying that I'm special because my job involves wearing a uniform.

Our soldiers aren't in the military just for the benefits...most joined because they wanted to do something for their country, and to protect the rights of imbeciles like you. They EARN those benefits by putting their lives in danger....and people like you want to take them away, or make it harder on them than it needs to be.
:fu:

they are not protecting my rights and most of them join for pay, training and benefits and benifits.get over it

How can you say that? It is an undeniable fact that Afganistan and Iraq have not invaded America!!!!! Coincidence? I don't THINK so! If it wern't for our military, they would have taught their camels to swim long ago, and assaulted our beaches waving their scimitars!

So it's your contention that America should have just gone on an apology tour following 9/11 and never fought back when terrorists killed thousands of innocent Americans. You idiots are NUTS.

why do you hate the us military so much, but are in love with hamas?

my godness more historionic ..because in dont join in with warriors pity party hardly equates to hating the military and recognizing the people of palestine have rights is hardly loving hamas

Nor am I....this is about ALL of us taking a little hit...and yes, this is a little hit....Across the board actually means something, don't you think?

Army, Marines, Coast Guard, etc got cut too.

I was just talking to a friend of mine about this they keep taking away from the Military, pretty soon they will be paying for their own medical care too.

his claim that his meds increased like this is a flat out lie unsupportable by any facts.

further the increase was part of the Fiscal Year 2013 Defense Authorization Act - a law passed in both chambers and signed by the president.
