Texas Democrats flee the state to Illinois.

Both party's stink. Gerrymandering buy EITHER party can steal your vote.

A few years ago an AG opinion stated the governor could petition a court to have an office declared vacant. I believe we are about to see if this holds water.
Also, it looks like my memory was off the beam.

This cowardly tactic has precedents in several states. But the sanction of removal has no known precedent that I’m aware of.

It may be time to try — even though it will of course result in involving the courts.

I don’t know Texas law. But when other legislators in other states (I think it was out in the Midwest or west) tried that shit, their offices were found to have been “vacated.”

But yeah. It depends on their laws and their “interpretation” by some judges. If the judge isn’t an activist, and the removal from office works, you can be certain they would take their challenge to the most liberal and activist judge in the federal district for “relief.” Then, probably, the SCOTUS.
dude, it was Wisconsin and they too came to Illinois.

I believe it was.

Also, their Constitution didn’t permit passage of a FISCAL bill absent a quorum.

As I understand it, other bills there didn’t require a quorum. So the Republicans simply made the bill a non fiscal bill and proceeded to pass it anyway. (My source is ChatGPT and I recognize that this source isn’t always solid.)

Here we go again.

Texas Democrats are once again fleeing the state to deny a quorum to Texas Republicans to protest redistricting plans that may provide Republicans up to five Congressional seats.

Yeah, they've pulled this stunt before...last time fleeing to Oklahoma. But Oklahoma, being a Republican state, said... Come and get 'em.

So this time they've fleeing to Chicago, ostensibly to protest alleged gerrymandered.

Have you seen Illinois Congressional Map???

Democrats once again yell CHARGE, then shot themselves right in the foot.

Are these people really relocating or just using someone's address/PO box to claim residency in Illinois?

I live in Illinois and it was on the news hourly here when it happened. Cry baby sore losers who can't accept the will of the people.

For protesting Repub's anti-democratic plan to gerrymander? Wait.........you were just joking, right?
Democracy is when people elect politicians to represent them and, in turn, politicians gather together to vote on things. These people are running away from the democrat process because they don't like what they think will be the democratic outcome of the voting.

Exactly, how can they be showing democratic action when they don't use their vote and instead leave? They then are saying they don't wish to participate in a legal voting action.

Why do you need to know names? So goons can be sent in to twist their arms?
because you seem to be squealing like a pig. Name who you think owns it.

I'd love to see the Democrats in Texas arrested. I'd love to see any Democrats arrested. I mean, I'd love to see Republicans arrested too, but seeing the Dems get arrested would make my day.
avoiding constitutional duties is a violation of their oath of office. You know how demofks love to throw out the oath of office tag.

I need to name programmers? Why? They wouldn’t even have to know who’s who, just population numbers and instructions to construct districts as compactly as possible.

well if you are going to complain about something, offer up who owns the process. Go for it, who legally sets district boundaries?
