Some years ago, something very similar happened to Sabers goalie Clint Malarchuk. It was only because of the immediate action of the trainers that he survived.

God, that's just a tragic thing...

In all the leagues up here, players have to wear a kevlar collar.

As I understand it, he was supposed to be wearing one as well.

It’s a terribly tragic event and one that hopefully never happens again.
