The Theology of Government Shutdown: Christian Dominionism | Morgan Guyton

The theological ethos of Rafael Cruz's vision is in Christian dominionism; he talks about preaching a "message of dominion" that all Christians have received an "anointing as kings." I watched a sermon he preached on August 26, 2012 at the New Beginnings megachurch in Irving, Texas, led by Christian Zionist charismatic pastor Larry Huch. Huch incidentally had a very interesting prophecy to share when he introduced Cruz to preach:

We've been doing this series here that God laid on my heart: Getting to the top and staying there. A message for us as individuals, the kingdom of God, but also for America. It's not enough to get there. We need to stay there. It's not a coincidence that in a few weeks, we go into what's called in the Bible Rosh Hashanad [sic]... It will be the beginning of the spiritual year 2012. The number 12 means divine government. That God will begin to rule and reign. Not Wall Street, not Washington, God's people and His kingdom will begin to rule and reign. I know that's why God got Rafael's son elected, Ted Cruz the next senator.

But here's the exciting thing... The rabbinical teaching is... that in a few weeks begins that year 2012 and that this will begin what we call the end-time transfer of wealth. And that when these Gentiles begin to receive this blessing, they will never go back financially through the valley again. They will grow and grow and grow. It's said this way: that God is looking at the church and everyone in it and deciding in the next three and a half years who will be his bankers. And the ones that say here I am Lord, you can trust me, we will become so blessed that we will usher in the coming of the messiah.

Wow. So transfer of wealth is okay, as long as it's God's idea.

But what will happen to that money? Will they do as God commanded? Or use it to elect more people to control the wealth of this country.

Matthew 25:31-46

31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers,[a] you did it to me.’

41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Dominion Theology or Dominionism is the idea that Christians should work toward either a nation governed by Christians or one governed by a conservative Christian understanding of biblical law. It is a form of Theocracy and is related to Theonomy, though it does not necessarily advocate Mosaic law as the basis of government. Prominent adherents of Dominion Theology are otherwise theologically diverse, including the Calvinist Christian Reconstructionism and the charismatic/Pentecostal Kingdom Now theology and New Apostolic Reformation.

Some elements within the mainstream Christian right have been influenced by Dominion Theology authors. Indeed, some writers have applied the term "Dominionism" more broadly to the mainstream Christian right, implicitly arguing that that movement is founded upon a theology that requires Christians to govern over non-Christians. Mainstream conservatives do not call themselves "Dominionists," and the usage has sparked considerable controversy.

This seems to be where the Tea Party wants to take our country, and probably the bulk of the Republican party as well.

Thoughts?

Oh boy, another "Let's demonize the Tea Party" thread. At least post it in the Flame Zone where it belongs.

This manifestation of Christian arrogance is of course nothing new; indeed, the Framers experienced it and anticipated it, hence the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment and their admonishment that church and state remain separate.

Needless to say fundamentalist Christians and social conservatives will deny their desire to establish a ‘Christian republic,’ but their contempt for Establishment Clause jurisprudence clearly undermines such denials.

I worry about theocrats too. They and socialists are both blind faith ideologies. The problem right now is government has the overwhelming power, and without the religion, the right at this point is much more correct on politics and economics.

The Constitution has been trashed for over 80 years now and its down-slide continues. It isn't the theocrats doing that, it's the ruling class politicians. If you want the best ideology, think libertarian.

How was it "trashed", exactly?

And there was "socialism" in the Constitution from the get go.

Doesn't this thread belong under politics?
There are busineses in the party that don't want it.
If there is enough of a minority that doesn't want it then why are you forcing it on everyone instead of making it voluntary?

Oh boy, I see the atheists are still quivering in their boots in fear of the evil Christians who will convert them or cut their heads off.

The ideas mentioned in the OP aren't the official stance of the Tea Party.

But unhinged loony liberals like BD Boop love to demonize the TPM by spreading lies. ..

I admit the TP crooked, just like EVERY establishment.
but this is the same shit, but not as bad, as what was going on with obama. not that dudes family was fucked with greediness.
besides, arent religions corporations? they need a little PR every once in a while :D

So how exactly is whatever this guy is saying to introduce Ted's father relevant to Ted, the Tea Party, or our government?

If its truth, is it "demonizing".

If you believe its "demonizing", you could post proof.

I think trying to malign the Tea party with something that a Pastor with unknown connection to the Tea Party said unclearly and pretending that what he said applies to the movement is by definition demonizing.

Maybe you could provide more context for the statements. Evidence of his involvement with the Tea Party. Maybe some evidence that the Tea Party supports imposing Christianity on anyone.

I dont know. Maybe some evidence instead of just accusations. I wouldn't think that would be difficult if your case is correct.

In the '30s they had to repeal Prohibition. From then on it becomes apparent that back room politicians have decided to just get things done by skirting the Congress, or failing that, just do them--both without recourse to amending the Constitution. First example of each, Social Security and the War on Drugs. Then along came Johnson to speed up the process. Exploiting white guilt while actually keeping blacks down on the plantation, he got the War on Poverty and Great Society programs passed. As he said, "I'll have them ******* voting Democrat for the next 200 years". And so, 50 years later and counting, his prophesy is being fulfilled and the Constitution is only given lip service. And now, Obama, among other things, is granting exemptions to his own Obamacare, strengthening the elite class by enlarging the legal double standard by fiat and executive order.

And there was "socialism" in the Constitution from the get go.

Yeah, any government is technically socialist. The modern usage of the word implies big government which ignores the limitations imposed on it by the Constitution. Our rights are not granted by government, they are inherent. Government controls on business and individuals have long ago ventured into the dark recesses of the Fascist brand of socialism.

Liberal strategy against the Tea Party is to throw shit against the wall and hope something sticks. It's been the strategy since they first formed, slander is all you have and all you ever will have.

As a Tea Party sympathizer who has attended several meetings and participate in their web sites, I know what you say is true. No, they're not perfect, particularly when it comes to religion, but they are very knowledgeable about politics, and they are not racists as some in the media try to portray them. The only ones left who are mete for that accusation are the liberal left, playing their worn to shreds race card.
