And that's such a loathsome concept to you...why, exactly? This thread belongs in "Conspiracy Theories"....or, alternately, "Particularly Loony Conspiracy Theories".
LOL - you don't know the history of Starve the Beast, Grover Norquist and his Wed. Evening Meetings, do you?
Norquist and his followers don't belong to cabal, they've been upfront for years. Norquist is the Godfather of the Tea Party and it is his comment about drowning the government in a bathtub.

Double points if you can answer without mindlessly repeating progressive bumperstickers and protest sign slogans.

Wall Street and Main Street Business all believe a default on the debt will be catastrophic. I suggest you turn off Fox News, tune out Rush Limbaugh, close your eyes and ears to Sarah Palin and Glen Beck and listen to people who really understand Capitalism.
The Chamber of Commerce believes the debt will be catastrophic [talk about voter remorse, they helped elect the radicals who may bring us Armageddon].

The above is a short read, BTW and STB seems to be the ideological foundation of the Tea Party Republicans.
Is it wrong to infer that the shut down of our government was only the first gambit and more intransigence will follow as we approach the deadline to raise the debt limit?

Controlling spending never occurred.
One cannot reduce their debt by constantly increasing their debt and debt limit. This is true for a family, a business and a government.
Let us suppose that average family A increases their debt by the same equivalent that their wages rise every year. When will they ever pay off their debt? Now, let us suppose that average family B uses all wage increases to reduce their debt. They will eventually pay off their debt and own their house, their car, etc. In the long run, family B is better for the economy and better off for themselves. It's not complex. Our government is acting like family A. It's going to be a hard thing for this country when the rest of the world decides to cut off the credit. We'd be better off making that decision for ourselves before the rest of the world does. Trust me, eventually they will if we continue this path deficit spending and increasing national debt.
It happened once before, in England, when the dollar replaced the sterling as the world reserve currency. England financially imploded from that. There are moves afoot to replace the dollar as the world reserve currency, and the more the US goes into debt and just keeps printing more dollars, the more steam that move will get. The American people will get their ass handed to them when the US dollar is removed as the world reserve currency (notice I said when, not if). If our government doesn't get it's financial house in order and stop racing towards more debt we will be completely screwed.
This will never happen because of the teaparty is wholly owned by the kochbrothers and others of their wealth. Since Citizen United the teaparty now can be funded fully by koch brothers and their kind.
The Tea Party is not ONE party but a lot of individual parties that share the same values.
It's obvious you do not know a thing about the Tea Party other than what you hear from the liberal media.
Now if what you say has any truth to it then it should be easy for you to prove.
Or you could educate us. I admit what I know of the TP was formed by watching over- weight, middle aged white men and women dressed in 17th Century garb or wrapped in an American Flag play acting as patriots as they marched on The Mall, and what I read on this message board, the radical Republicans in the House and Senate or hear from Limbaugh, Hannity, Palin, et al.
The values which seem most TP adherents support seem to be framed by, "it's all about me"; compassion isn't one of them. `Envy, seems to be a common factor too, since distain for government employees (cops, teachers) and union members is another characteristic I observe as well as their hate for government in general.
So, please tell us, what makes the TP special?

Honey, I'm related to one and I hear their shit first hand. I'm appalled that the Tea Baggers want to get rid of one man = one vote, but they do, based on the one man's ability to pay taxes.
They have a scorched earth policy and the irony is that they are the ones who are burning as we speak.
And Boehner will have to find a new way of defining is legacy because right now he's your bitch and that's not what he had in his master plan.

But the information I provided about losing status as the world reserve currency is 100% accurate and applicable to the current situation, how it came about for England, and what happened to that nation was disastrous. Right now, The US is traveling that same path. Background:

Apples and Antelopes, a family is not a government, your analogy fails to prove anything. Our debt has accumulated for centuries, in good times we spend and in bad times we spend, that's the history. A serious effort to lower the debt is not a one year issue, as the far right seems to believe. It can be reduced over decades, if and only if there is agreement on priorities.
Look to the Preamble of our Constitution, that is IMO the vision and mission statement we should follow.
And the Nation continues to suffer as a consequence of that failed dogma. When Bill Clinton became president in 1993, one of his first acts in office was to push through Congresswith no Republican supporta big tax increase. Starve the beast theory predicted a big increase in spending as a consequence. But in fact, federal outlays fell from 22.1% of GDP in 1992 to 18.2% of GDP by the time Clinton left office.
Although all of evidence of the previous 20 years clearly refuted starve the beast theory, George W. Bush was an enthusiastic supporter, using it to justify liquidation of the budget surpluses he inherited from Clinton on massive tax cuts year after year. Bush called them a fiscal straightjacket for Congress that would prevent an increase in spending. Of course nothing of the kind occurred. Spending rose throughout his administration to 20.7% of GDP in 2008.
Nevertheless STB remains a critical part of Republican dogma. On April 8 Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., told right-wing talk show host Sean Hannity that the Republican response to health care reform would be to starve the beast by refusing to fund it. On April 14 Sarah Palin begged her followers in Boston to please starve the beast by resisting any tax increase, no matter how large the budget deficit.
