Suppose Biden had decided to stay in Afghan on the same limited basis we had employed

We have needed to pull from Afghanistan for well over a decade now. Anyone who has ever served in that AOR will tell you that Afghans are the most tits worthless excuse for a military to ever be assembled.
This was going to happen if we stayed for 5 years, 10 years, 20, 30, 60...they were there for a check. When the protection racket dried up, they were gone.

The Afghan government was paying their soldiers Starvation Wages. Comparing what they make as opposed to the pay for American GI's, it was really pathetic.

If you pay someone a low wage, loyalty really doesn't come with it, as someone else can come around and offer them more.

simply not true.

The bill won’t be small.

In 2021, the US spent just over $3 billion to support and sustain the Afghan force, including paying salaries and supporting modern US-made helicopters. That outlay brought the total American outlay to $88 billion over the past two decades on building up the Afghan security forces. All that money has only managed to build an army that continues to struggle against the Taliban, losing much of the countryside to the lightly-equipped fighters.

This is true. Their military men told stories of how the money was hoarded by the government and they didn't even have ammo for their weapons. It seems almost impossible today to have a government that isn't crooked anymore, including the US.
