Student loan program may come back to haunt.

There has to be a way to fix the system, put real accountability back into it, without making it so that only rich people can go to college. Somebody’s gonna be giving somebody a loan. Somebody who takes a loan needs to pay it back.

The colleges should be giving the loans.
If they want to allow someone to borrow $200K for a Masters in Queer Dance Theory,
they can write off the loan when their graduate never gets a decent job.

What's the rush to go to college. The brain isn't fully wired until age 25. Between high school graduation and then one can save up for tuition.

What the actual fook? Dude stop annoying me

It positively BEGS the question, Why is a college education so expensive? Do they need palacial Student Unions, gyms, money-losing athletic departments, Professors who only teach a couple classes a week, armies of administrators constantly seeking to justify their existence, four years to teach you 8 or ten courses that are actually relevant to your major?

Also, there are many strategies to ease the burden of getting that degree. I myself used:
  • personal savings,
  • the GI bill,
  • small scholarships,
  • study at home rather than out of state,
  • full-time work (full-time study is only 12 credits),
  • Employer contributions,
  • community college, and
  • CLEP tests*.

Those who write the loans should be taking more care in deciding who should get the studies and at what rates, and how many cosigners and how much collateral needs to be pledged.

It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure that someone studying Electrical Engineering or Proctology is going to have better prospects after college than a student of LBGTQ+ studies, and is probably better to pay back the money.

A lot were forgiven for government employees but nobody else which was probably why democratic turnout was unusually low. The Biden Department of Ed workers could only find time to forgive their own loans despite all the promises/lies about going from oldest borrowers first. Looking at reddit, it also appears that people who were approved 6 plus months ago for defrauded borrowers also never got theirs either.

Anyway, Trump has actually left some clues he may not be as heavy-handed as conservatives hope. He was the one who first used the emergency powers to pause them; he has previously stated he thought it was wrong that the government was using student loans to profit off taxpayers; and he has albeit no recently seemed to tilt toward one of the moderate conservative proposals that would still allow for relief for many---just not high-income doctors and lawyers and the like.

We'll see.
Trump will follow what the courts rule... Biden didn't...

Primarily because we're dumping a ton of money via government backed loans into tuitions, not to mention the fact that the establishment is encouraging every kid with a pulse to attend a university whether it's a good idea for that kid or not. The Universities can raise the price of tuition as much as they like since they know students will just go into debt to pay whatever price they ask for, good business if you can get it.

Increased demand chasing static supply equals higher prices.

If someone intends to go, they gotta get going right after high school. Most people who wait don’t end up going, and even most people who go don’t end up finishing.

When the government uses tax payer money to attract voters and divide the people its criminal and Biden and his entire cabinet should be prosecuted....

Good plan!

But where are the jobs that pay unskilled, uneducated workers enough to support themselves AND save for college?

Live with mommy & daddy until they're 30?

A great many students do not declare a major until after their first or even second year of college.

All credit & insurance should be illegal.

Let the true free market work and see what happens!

High schools are not trying to push every single kid into a college track anymore that idea is out of date.

Depends on the particular high school however I didn't mention high schools, the primary pushers are the universities themselves, their various activist henchmen and government bureaucrat cronies. They spend a lot of marketing capital convincing kids that they cannot succeed without what they're selling.

Why do think little Johnny straight C's and his parents are willing to sign up to borrow obscene amounts of money so he can go off to the University of Bumfuck?

So,? Car companies try to convince people to buy cars. Is there anything wrong with that?
