I ain't talking about Trades- or myself- I'm talking about my youngest son, who is an independent outside sales person straight commission- he is definitely middle class income- well in excess of 100k year (down here that is good money)- he went to 1 semester of college- he supports a wife and a kid and one on the way any day now(paid for in advance unless there is an unexpected emergency or problem), is buying his home, has 1 new vehicle and a dream truck, 2013 f-250 4wd power stroke (his 5th truck since he started buying his own), a travel trailer and does what he wants when he wants-

He is doing pretty good.

My son went into the Air Force and is going to work F-15s like his dad did, with his skills and the education the Air Force will provide, he wont be a College Grad Barista at Starbucks which was the new norm under that brown turd Obammy...He will have no debt, and has a stock portfolio at 18 that is better than most college educated morons...

My SIL went to the Air Force, very proud of him. He flies and has zero college debt.
My daughter went to Trade School, $13,000 and 18 months of living away from home. Currently no debt.
I teach public school, and 100% support trade schools, a thing called 'running start', internships/apprenticeships, joining the military, starting your own business or working for the family, or going to College.

But I agree, choose your college degree carefully or you will end up in huge debt and a shitty job trying to pay off that debt.

I love the idea of opening your own business, my buddy who is a building contractor was part time working on friends houses, but i told him he should incorporate so he can get the perks of a business plus the protections of the LLC. Now he is doing very well, and is his own boss. Did i mention, he is black also, and voted for President Trump, so he just isnt black enough...

If it was just the academic degrees that were having trouble paying their loans no one would care. Business and law degrees are now practically worthless unless they come from an Ivy League school.

Half the people earning $ didn't even know what was going on, yet they're suppose to fix and improve, amazing.

Just telling you my experience, and not an ounce untrue. You have to remember it wasn't the best of the best for starts, because nothing near govt. is less small and in good hands. I worked with perhaps 150 people at some point. The govt. programmers plain didn't stand up to the Indians, and as people too over all, govt. workers are just entitled less a few. Many have never known the private sector, spoiled rotten. I know of one Indian that mostly useless, go figure he worked for the Govt. too, probably corrupted. That said, the best tow programmers (people) of the bunch were white American males.

Even STEM has found way to be somewhat useless. An Engineer (30s) made a full time job what I spent two weeks to automate, with a template too. It was his project for well over a year. By the third week 5 minutes to back it up on occasion. I finished the 4th grade & was never paid to program. Neat, mainstream U.S. education is so awesome (hacks!).

The guy running the program my last assignments was useless too. $140 hr. Govt. EE. I don't know where he was educated, but he's another engineer who can't get out of his own way. Dollars to donuts years later they still have implemented the last project I gave them, all logic & content accounted for, always was.

There are certainly trades that end up being fairly lucrative but not everyone is inclined to that sort of occupation. I do pretty good now as a homebuilder but it took 25 years of pounding nails to learn how to do it. It's also important to note that benefits in the trades are crappy if they are offered at all.

My nephew spent years trying to repay his loans. It was an issue that was partly responsible for his divorce. He had a wealthy Uncle pass away about two years ago. Most of his assets were investments and couldn't be liquidated for many months. But my nephew finally got his inheritance and paid off his loans. Now we get this Biden clown and he's going to payoff student loans when our country is 26 trillion in debt and growing for the sake of vote buying. How would that be fair to my nephew and those who were in his position?

I disagree. Where is it written you have to attend college right after high school? If you really want to go to college, then stay at home, work for three or four years saving every dollar you can. Then enter college while still working part-time. In the summer, get a full-time job and continue funding your own education. Depending on how long you stay in college, if you do have to take a loan, it will be a much, much smaller one than if you went to college out of high school.

What I found with most younger people is they wanted to go to college, but didn't know what for. They choose fields that have little demand. The less demand for a job, the less money it pays. When my niece was trying to figure out what she wanted to go for, she was considering a marine biologist. I told her to show me the want ads with all the marine biologist jobs posted.

When you work you learn things, talk to a lot of people, get experience on the job and on life in general. You mature and can make better decisions such as what career you wish to pursue.
