Starting tomorrow, if you’re on public assistance, you can’t wire money out of the country.

That doesn’t make any sense. They qualify for assistance based on their income. Sending money overseas doesn’t qualify them for anything.

The point is, if they have extra money to send out of the country, then their handouts need to be adjusted, or dropped altogether. Duh.

The reality is that they are sending money to support family that is starving

Wouldn’t we be better off going after the wealthy who send money overseas to avoid taxes?

Depending on where you are a janitor, you can make 40k a year, where I am, and still raise a family here, likely need two incomes though

Garbage truck drivers in my town are employed by the govt and actually do more then just trash pick up they do town maintenance, buddy of mine works there, since high school, has govt benefits raised two kids, owns his house, retainment, kids in college
Hardly menial at that

As far as day laborer, that’s not a job. That’s I need a job today. Nobody was ever able to raise a family doing that, nor should they, there is no security, it’s literally day to day.
Many janitors make good money. I recall a school custodian in this area is over $70K. (And, of course, they get every holiday under the sun, summers off, and multiple school vacations.)

Yet they need government money as well.

Money is fungible, and thus it doesn't matter the source, the end result is government benefits allows them to do so.
You can restrict how government money can be used

You cannot lay claim to all their money because you give them some

If you need government money, you shouldn't be sending any of yours overseas.

Handouts have always come with conditions, and this is a good one.

This has nothing to do with fraud. You’re making excuses for yourself.
When someone takes that money and wires it abroad, three things happen:
  1. The money no longer circulates in the U.S. economy
Grocery stores, landlords, pharmacies, utilities — that’s where assistance dollars are meant to go. When it’s wired overseas, that economic activity disappears.
  2. It can subsidize people who are not eligible
The recipient might be supporting family abroad, which is understandable emotionally — but it means U.S. taxpayers are effectively funding people who never paid into the system.
  3. It opens a loophole for fraud
    In some documented cases:
    • People use multiple benefit cards
    • Or fake households
    • Then convert benefits into cash
    • Then wire it overseas
That’s how organized benefit fraud works.
  4. The policy is aimed at closing that loophole.

If they are in need of government assistance to help them get by and get food, pay utilities or rent, how do they have extra to send out for the country? Government assistance is to take care of the bare necessities, if they can afford to wire money out of the country, logically, they don’t need government assistance.

If the government gives them food assistance, they can restrict what foods they can biy

But if they work and make their own money they are free to buy cigarettes

Buying cigarettes and sending money overseas are two different things.

sorry, but the line has to be drawn.

Public assistance is based on what you make and how much the cost of living is.

The government does not get to dictate how every cent you earn is spent

If someone’s family in the old country is starving,
A compassionate country encourages you to help them

Sorry, but that is a line too far.
