The national Democratic Party doesn't campaign on policy issues anymore. It focuses exclusively on identity politics, trying to turn poor and middle class people against wealthy people, black Americans against white Americans, women against men, etc., and their hope is that watching a black woman tear into the white President will distract voters from the content of the speech and get them to focus on the apparent conflict between black and white and between women and men. The Democrats hope to survive and even triumph by relying entirely on sound bites and slogans while avoiding serious discussions on policy issues: hence Stacy Abrams.
