Solar is now ‘Cheapest Electricity in History’, confirms IEA

If it is so cheap why is the hardware and instillation so damned expensive?
Most companies now a days provide a 20 year payment plan making the monthly payments less than what many people pay for there current electricity. I just set up a unit for my mother cut her month payments in half

In the best locations and with access to the most favourable policy support and finance, the IEA says the solar can now generate electricity “at or below” $20 per megawatt hour (MWh).

In the entire article, there's only a single sentence about the cost of solar electricity ... 2¢/kW-hr ... with massive subsidies ... I don't believe that ...

FAKE NEWS ...

LOL, maybe you are brainwashed? It's so sad that people like you are the progeny of those who stood on a road and yelled, "get a horse" as the first cars drive by.

Our roof panels have reduced our cost for electricity to an average of $1.00 for every 60 day bill. Annually we receive a small check.

When cars were first built, they didn't require subsidies. That's the point. If solar electricity is so cheap, if your view, why should the taxpayers have to pay you to take it?

Why do our taxes pay for the Military Industrial Complex? Why do our taxes pay for the Secret Service to rent golf carts at Mir a Lago? Why do corporations not pay any tax, based on the tax fraud signed by trump? Why did my tax dollars go to building a Wall on our Southern Border?
Government has the power to levy taxes. And endless supply of fiat dollars to put into projects that cost more and more to do. Value for the dollar ended in most of our agendas a long time ago. At what point does the system buckle?

In Democrat ruled cities it already has.

California will still be throwing money at the High Speed Train To Nowhwere when the economy implodes.

And how many years have I heard the 'Conservatives' state that California is on the verge of economic ruin. Yet here they are the fifth biggest economy in the world. They must be doing something right.

The IEA? The IEA has nothing to do with scientific research or the complex economic political power structure that depends on fossil fuel exploration and production. The IEA is the propaganda sponsor of economic blackmail.

That complex economic political power is undergoing a paradigm change as we post. Fossil fuels will have a minor role in energy by 2050.

Solar is now ‘cheapest electricity in history’, confirms IEA

""The world’s best solar power schemes now offer the “cheapest…electricity in history” with the technology cheaper than coal and gas in most major countries.

That is according to the International Energy Agency’s World Energy Outlook 2020. The 464-page outlook, published today by the IEA, also outlines the “extraordinarily turbulent” impact of coronavirus and the “highly uncertain” future of global energy use over the next two decades....."

Maybe in a sunny country but not in the UK !!

Takes 25 years for the payback on the panels, then you're getting up to the lifespan of them by that time, their efficiency drops.

Good. Since solar provides the least expensive electricity, there is no point in continuing subsidies for it. People will be willing to invest their own money in the modality.
Great let’s start with doing away with the taz layer subsidies of the fossil fuel industry:

“The United States provides a number of tax subsidies to the fossil fuel industry as a means of encouraging domestic energy production. These include both direct subsidies to corporations, as well as other tax benefits to the fossil fuel industry. Conservative estimates put U.S. direct subsidies to the fossil fuel industry at roughly $20 billion per year; with 20 percent currently allocated to coal and 80 percent to natural gas and crude oil. ”

If we gave the alternative energy industry 20 billion a year in subsidies we’d be off fossil fuels in no time. Remember the above only includes direct payments and dos not include indirect subsidies and the costs of all the negative externalities.

It is good news for the renewable energy industry. Renewables are becoming more affordable despite all the efforts of conservatives to keep these costs up and all the handouts to the fossil fuel companies.

This is the unsubsidized prices of various methods of energy production;

Do you have a source for this chart? ... what are these "certain circumstances"? ... how long are they amortizing the capital investments? ...

No hydro? ... no passive? ...

This just show you how fucking dumb these Moon Bats are.

If solar power was economical then it would have to be subsidized by the filthy government.

Moon Bats don't understand Economics any more than they understand Climate Science, History, Biology, Ethics or the Constitution.

Great idea. Which of the subsidies listed in your link isn't just a typical business expense deducted in a typical way? Which isn't typical accounting allowed for all corporations?

BTW.....in the 10 years Ive been in this forum, Ive heard million stories about the bargain that is solar power. in 2010, solar powered about 1% of America. Now its up to a whopping.........ready for this.......3%. I mean.......W0W!:hello77:

I still can't think of a better way to usher in the next glacial period than widespread use of solar.

Solar decentralizes power in almost every sense of the term. That is a great thing, and almost by itself enough reason to change. The fact that it pays for itself as well makes it the proverbial "no brainer", except for those with no brain.

A Bill Gates Venture Aims To Spray Dust Into The Atmosphere To Block The Sun. What Could Go Wrong? (forbes.com)

Widespread research into the efficacy of solar geoengineering has been stalled for years due to controversy. Opponents believe such science comes with unpredictable risks, including extreme shifts in weather patterns not dissimilar to warming trends we are already witnessing. Environmentalists similarly fear that a dramatic shift in mitigation strategy will be treated as a green light to continue emitting greenhouse gases with little to no changes in current consumption and production patterns.

And there is the man behind the curtain! We can't mitigate the warming, we have to stop consuming.

Fucking twats.

The fact that it pays for itself as well

That's funny!

As I've said previous, we're already having a Green New Deal without legislation.
COVID (and low financing costs for front-loaded renewable plants) has chastened the day, and most everyone is on board.

Probably why Germans pay triple what we do, all their cheap "green" energy.
