Socialism is The Fallout of Government Schooling

I'll take that on faith given your experience Admiral

but let me introduce this for consideration, what does any given industry assume when it no longer needs to compete for a customer?

~S~
We don't have customers.

What happens when an industry's supply of raw materials is crap and they cannot produce the desired results? You can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit.

Because parents don't have a choice Admiral

in my state we are paying more, and getting less for results across the entire educational spectrum

so, either we've an entire generation of 'stupid kids' , or we are ignoring why the system is failing.

~S~
Parents have a choice. They choose where they live and if they don't like the school, they can send their kids to the private school of their choice.

We have a generation of stupid kids. It has been that way since the 90s.

Early in my career, I had a student who was enrolled in my school after being homeschooled through 8th grade. As a freshman, I had this child in my applied math class which is Algebra taught over two years for slower students. This kid could not multiply or divide numbers. How do you teach algebra to a student without any basic math skills?

Parents have a choice.
not if they can't move Admiral, why do you think 'bussing' existed?
We have a generation of stupid kids.
or we've a broken system that's produced one Admiral

for starters, anything the government subsidizes to the point of no longer needing to compete for customers can raise $$ to whatever they wish (until the tax rebellion stars)

they also don't need any level of customer service, nor do they need subscribe to a meritocracy where the best services and/or best people offering them matters........add in our lovely ACA anytime you'd like

enter 'school choice', and watch that change overnight Admiral, because that is when we DO become a customer vs a conscript

I'll wager all the politicized agenda's vaporate quickly as well

no more gender benders multilating our kids w/out notification

no more cat boxes in the restrooms for children identifying as one

no more drugging our kids into stupidity at the hands of the pharmacabals' MH minions

no more historical revisionisms

no more insisting what children think vs. how to think

~S~

Why can't they move? I chose my housing by the schools when I had kids. I moved every couple of years for most of my kid's childhood. When my oldest graduated from high school, she had attended 9 schools in 12 years.

I am all for school choice, as long as they choose public schools. I want no funding for private or religious schools. If you want that route, pay for it yourself.

Most of what you posted has nothing to do with school choice but electing school boards with common sense.

Why can't they move?
because they are captive to their poverty Admiral

sorry, but 'choice' means our tax $$$'s go to more than just one monopoly

School boards are powerless entities Admiral, i have supported many locals that have run for SB positions, concerned parents that do not like the results of the ed system.

They quickly find that they have no choice but to bow to the wishes of the school unions. I've attended many SB meetings where local parents are overwhelminly opposed to the agenda's i've posted, only to have the SB explain to us we've no CHOICE

I've even seen the school unions oust a few teachers who've spoken out against them here.

School unions have long since become omnipotent , loosing sight of the FACT that they work for the tax payer/parent , not the other way round

School choice knocks them off their high horses , forces them to compete , allows the 'customer' to speak with our tax$$$'s , and raises up from being conscripts

Love it or hate it, we're a capitalist system Admiral

That post is completely divorced from reality.

Speaking of choice...

Public schools and charter schools butting heads on funding issues:

This is unfortunate, as the education of students should supersede any other considerations within the framework of what's possible.

because they are captive to their poverty Admiral
They need to get themselves out of poverty the way most people do, they need to get an education, get a job, and earn a living.
sorry, but 'choice' means our tax $$$'s go to more than just one monopoly
There is no monopoly. There are private and parochial schools all over this country.
School boards are powerless entities Admiral, i have supported many locals that have run for SB positions, concerned parents that do not like the results of the ed system.
The school boards determine how the schools are run, whether you want to believe it or not.
They quickly find that they have no choice but to bow to the wishes of the school unions. I've attended many SB meetings where local parents are overwhelminly opposed to the agenda's i've posted, only to have the SB explain to us we've no CHOICE
Why do they have no choice? In reality, most school boards have 100% of the power and unions have none. Unions only control work-related issues and have zero impact on curriculum in the vast majority of districts and had none in all districts before COVID in blue cities and states.
I've even seen the school unions oust a few teachers who've spoken out against them here.
Unions cannot oust teachers. You are being dishonest.
School unions have long since become omnipotent , loosing sight of the FACT that they work for the tax payer/parent , not the other way round
Give an example. The word is "losing".

School choice knocks them off their high horses , forces them to compete , allows the 'customer' to speak with our tax$$$'s , and raises up from being conscripts
Public schools cannot compete against private schools on a cost basis because private schools pick and choose their students, can expel students for behavior issues on a whim, and do not have to educate every child. Public schools do far more for students than private or public schools can ever do. It is not a level playing field because of all the rules, regulations and expectations. It is like asking a full-service gas station, fully staffed with mechanics on staff, in a major downtown area to match gas prices with a convenience store gas station on an exit by a major interstate. Capitalism sucks for competition there because costs are never the same.

Love it or hate it, we're a capitalist system Admiral

That's correct. You get what you pay for!

BTW, there is key for a period on your keyboard somewhere. I suggest you find it.

Socialism is an economic policy that seems utopian but in practice becomes a system for oppression and massive cronyism, shortages, dreadful quality of produced goods, and enforced lethargy. It happens every time. In a perverse way, it is too bad that the Soviet Union collapsed upon itself, because it was an object example of the folly of socialism. Indeed, it was not just a folly; it was a cancer. Imagine a grouping of countries where if you even threatened to leave for a better life, you could be shot and your family imprisoned - or worse. This remains the case in North Korea and Cuba, and yet the socialists among us pretend that these poignant examples do not exist.

So now in the U.S., the more divorced you are from the Real World, and the more historically illiterate you are, the more likely you are to embrace socialism as the solution for all of mankind's problems, especially poverty and illness. Here in the U.S., we have the figurative "Pope" of oblivious socialism in Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Mars).

And while some of our USMB correspondents deny it, teachers' unions are the main proponent of the folly of socialism. For most of us, it takes a few years working in the Real World to see how stupid this is, but alas it is possible to live one's entire life with minimal exposure to the Real World. Such people were on vivid display in the "No Kings" rallies of a few months ago.
BS.

They need to get themselves out of poverty the way most people do, they need to get an education, get a job, and earn a living.
And you’ll insist a formal education is the way to do this Admiral? How’s that been working out?

There is no monopoly. There are private and parochial schools all over this country.
Dear Admiral…. if one is captive to nothing more than their tax $$$ can afford, the private sector is unobtainable, ergo monopolizing on the impovershed….. As an aside to that, the elites in my area all send their kids to private schools , while paying for pub ed…….they d*nm well know the results they get is far better Admiral, wish I could have paid for it, like so many, but didn’t have the scratch
The school boards determine how the schools are run, whether you want to believe it or not.
Really Admiral? Do you think parents can march in the SB meetings and make demands on how education is run (curriculum) to agreeable school boards? My experience (along with many) are they’ll simply fall back on ‘the law’ , which is little more that whatever politicized agenda the school union supports. Anecdotally, we had our last principal resign after being placed in said crosshairs here...........that spoke volumes...

Be advised i've had many a local SB member's ear for decades Admiral
Unions cannot oust teachers. You are being dishonest.
Unions have become self serving vs serving the ‘worker ant’ long ago Admiral
Give an example. The word is "losing".
You’ll plz forgive me if I am a product of public ed here Admiral

Admittedly you’ve a grand point (or make mine) Admiral , so I would appear a socialized ed system is constrained to catering to the failures , underachievers , and slackers of society , where the private market would cull the herd...
The end result being society in general is all taken down a notch when said DEI sorts are accommodated and catered to

Guess who that costs?

with all due respect Admiral, the educational profession is something i hold in high regard, you'll never see or read me putting them down.

I won't blame teachers, no more than i would blame this generation of kids for all it's failures

I blame the system

Bless your little socialist heart! I'm sorry that you are so completely tethered to a life of people not being held accountable for their own success. I made sure my kids went to good public schools by where I chose to live. My two oldest kids graduated from the high school where I taught. My youngest graduated from a district where I taught. Meritocracy gave them the opportunity to go to college not at my expense. Every one of my kids attended college, and it did not cost me a dime. My parents paid nothing for my education, and I went to college on a scholarship after I enlisted in the Navy and graduate school on the GI Bill. If there is a will, there is a way. Most people are too lazy to make it work.

Do you have any clue as to why teachers join a union? Not being a teacher, you would not. Teachers join unions for the protection from corrupt administrators and school boards. They have zero impact on what is taught and how it is taught. They have no control over curriculum or teacher training. That is one of the biggest misconceptions of those outside public education.

People have been saying that for decades. My grandkids are all recently graduated and in high school. They are doing fine. Your schools made need some work where you live but please leave my schools alone!

SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURE you did, plebe.

In the real world, homeschooled students outperform government schooled students-it's not close.

The midshipman is dead-set against ANYTHING that will in any way reduce the slops going into the trough for the hogs to gorge. He having done so his entire adult life, it's essentially a matter of religion to him. He simply doesn't CARE that students are graduating illiterate, innumerate, and stupid.
