Zionist is a very old term. Back before Jews could return or live in Israel, they longed to go home. It was their ancestral land. Today things changed. Those wanting to go to Israel simply board an airplane. But when the word was created, this was not the case.
Today's Jews are home and therefore no longer Zionists.
