Zone1 So where would you go?

JustAnotherNut, should also not go to Washington state. There's also a sales tax on food, and on everything else, as well as high property taxes. The seasons are basically, road construction with continual backups and rainy season with some heavy rain, snow, ice and steep hills to slide down, and mudslides. The government seems to always be in debt no matter how much taxes they bleed from the public and I believe that if there was ever a strict audit done on the state's government, millions, if not billions would have just disappeared. Most likely it's entirely corrupt and is allowing illegals to vote.
Washington is beautiful. I just got back from a visit to Seattle. But ...

The gas prices there averaged around $4.75/gal. When I returned home (Denver) prices were $2.35/gal. Over twice as much, and I'm sure most of it is local and state taxes. The People's Republic of Seattle.

It does get cheaper the further away from Seattle/King county ya go, but yes first thing the Dems tax is gas and 'sin' tax (cigarettes, alcohol, marijuana, etc)

As of July 2025, the state tax on gasoline is 55.4 cents per gallon and is set for yearly 2% increases to keep up with inflation.....or until the Dems decide they need even more money.

I'm in CA so the .55/gallon sounds great. Isn't WA getting ready to implement an income tax?

Yes, possibly. IDK that it's gone that far yet, but Fergie has said he'd support it. They are currently calling it a Millionaires tax that would effect anyone making over a million. Not sure if individual or total household income........but if it does happen, it won't be long before everyone is taxed.

We are not that far behind CA for taxes. How much is your sales tax? Ours is now 10% on everything BUT food.....with the exception of hot or prepared food such as from the deli, that is taxed. And that's another one I expect to change in the next few years to include groceries.

They are also trying to eliminate the 1% cap on property taxes, but so far haven't been successful. Sounds great until you have pay the dang thing and I'm sure they'll wiggle around that and eventually get it approved.

Dems can't get enough of the tax & spend ideology

Damn, 10% sales tax. Ours is about 7.25%, but it can fluctuate from county to county. We have prop 13 down here to help with property taxes, they keep trying to get around that. One thing that has helped us is our houses are typically assessed when purchased or if major construction, not every couple of years. T

According to 'Search Assist'.......

Sales tax rates in Washington State vary by county, with the base state sales tax rate at 6.5%. Combined rates, including local taxes, can range from 6.5% to 10.4%, depending on the specific county and city.

But most anywhere in the Puget Sound area is around 10% give or take. I have not heard of anywhere here that is below 9%, although maybe in the eastside or the further away you get from any of the big cities

We (my 3 sons, and I) are considering moving out of state. The oldest is already in the process of getting his house on the market and moving to Idaho. He's already familiar with the area from going rafting, visiting and has friends already there and has a job lined up. That's great for him and he wants the rest of us to follow as well. We don't have all that in place or reasons to move there. I just know we've about had our fill of the left coast BS and looking to potentially move. Hopefully within the next year the decision will be made.

Off the top of my head some of my first choices would be Southern Utah, Dallas/Ft Worth area of Texas, maybe Arkansas just because I have extended family there, north central Florida maybe. Idaho was never my first choice of a place to move too but I am seeing alot of potential to change my mind. Warmer, drier climate without the scorching heat

What state do you or have you lived in and what do you think of it?? What is the average weather conditions vs extremes? Job market & pay? What kind of taxes (state income, sales, property, etc) do you pay? Basic cost of living? Real estate market and costs? Politics? Crime, drugs and homelessness rates?? Hunting/fishing opportunities, as well as local laws, rules and regulations governing outdoor recreation activities.......and, and, and??????
The most "red" state in the union is Wyoming. Vast countryside, minimal population, and lots of natural resources. And my personal favorite: less "3rd World" than most other states. West Virginia is another good choice. I'm in southern Utah which is good but a bunch of Californians are moving this way and likely bringing their Libtard ideology with them. That remains to be seen. But if I ever move again, it'll likely be Wyoming.

Wyoming does sound like a great place to go with the wide open spaces. Plenty of room to breathe and not so peopley and would have been a better choice in my younger years. Now I'm too old to deal with sub-zero temps, 10ft of snow and if I fell, I'd probably die without someone around to find me first........and not too many job options for my boys

I would go to Arizona, the Phoenix or Glendale area. I lived there for over 30 years and enjoyed it for the most part. The summers ARE hot but you learn to avoid the heat by staying out of it. The rest of the seasons are nice, especially Spring and Fall.

Not to mention the cockamamie carbon tax and 95% tax on tobacco products plus excessive tax on alcohol.

Yeah, go to AZ.

15th post
That's a tough one. I've been considering a similar move for years. I've found that every state has concerns that require some adjustment. Idaho is cold, Texas has really muggy summers and tornadoes and stiff property taxes, Tennessee has lots of rain, Montana is cold (but really beautiful), Wyoming has wind, Florida has hurricanes. Seems to be better to just suffer in silence.
MT has wind too, LOL, just WY North.

Their real estate prices are just under ours here. Cheaper, but not by much.....and I suspect a big part of that is because of the amount of growth they've been having. Not just prices, but building in a hurry and sometimes things are rushed. I would not buy a new house anyway.

BTW.........you sound like you're trying to scare me away, and that's not going to work.
Shhhh. Too many people here already.
