The Tea Party is an outgrowth of the base. They are hard to classify, but for this: their rage at the failure of government and the decline of our great nation has been very effectively channeled at Liberals (and Muslims and Gays and Mexicans). They understand rightly that their country has been stolen, but they've been handed a false narrative on who stole it.

This is why I feel bad for them, because they are so easily manipulated by the right's pundit class, which itself is funded by the plutocracy which has destroyed the middle class nation of their youth.

Consider this. George Bush and the Republican House/Senate raised the debt ceiling 4 times, but the Republican Base didn't make a peep. They didn't know about it. Bush and the Republican Congress doubled Clinton's spending, and there was no Tea Party to be found. Bush expanded our unfunded entitlements with Medicare Part D (almost as expensive as ObamaCare) and the Republican voter said nothing.

Then, Obama took office, and Limbaugh et al carpet-bombed these poor morons with stories about government spending. Indeed, every debt-ceiling-increase (every dime spent) under Obama received 24/7 news coverage - and Tea Party was born.

Problem is: their new's sources don't report when a sitting Republican president raises the debt ceiling or expands entitlement spending or mismanages war intelligence. As a result the tea party has no power when they need it most - when their party controls the Presidency. For this reason it is hard to take them seriously.

Ask someone from the Tea Party how much it cost to build the Hoover Dam and Satellite system. Then ask them how isolated corporations could have amassed the funding and created the mass mobilization required to make these things happen. The modern Southwest, with its thriving profit centers, would not exist without the Hoover Dam. And let's not talk about the number of industries dependent upon the satellite system for profit.

If you ask someone from the Tea Party about infrastructure or the military defense of Exxon's oil fields, you will confront utter confusion and rage.

The Tea Party. is to be pitied. On some very basic levels they are stupid.
