Hospital won’t close if we change our system. That’s a fear mongering talking point
And exactly what do you know about hospital operations? My ex-husband is a cardiologist and a hospital board member. If .gov took over healthcare most hospitals would go out of business. And a lot of healthcare workers would lose their jobs. Contrary to what you socialists think, hospitals aren't rolling in money. They rely mostly on charitable donations to buy new equipment and build new facilities. In fact I met my ex-husband at a hospital fundraiser event.
Even with the high costs of bringing drugs to market they are making insane profits. That’s after they eat those expenses. So that talking point is out the window. And if you like competition the. You should support a public option. If the public option can out perform the private industry then isn’t that a good thing? If it can’t then there is no reason to go single payer. Right?
Again, it is the profit incentive that drives pharmaceutical companies to invest in research for new drugs. Take away the profit motive and they will invest less in R&D, and as a result we will not have new medicines.
A public "option" will end up in a two-tiered healthcare system, where most doctors will not accept the restrictions that come along with government funded insurance, and will only accept patients who can pay cash. Ironically it will be the lower income people who will have longer wait times and lower quality care.
