So if Trump can do away with USAid with the Stroke of a pen, why not Social Security next?

My point with this entire thread is merely, if a president has the unilateral power to gut any independent federal agency, then what is stop him from doing that to SS, the small business administration, etc. That is the precedent that is being set.

It is now up to the House and Senate to defend their power. Do you see Johnson so much as objecting to what Trump is doing. The Senate is busy confirming crazy people, drunks, rapists to cabinet.

The FBI has been decapitated. As has the FAA.

Trump is on the side of responsible people providing for themselves in the present and for the future
Not so much though for the welfare and illegal bunch.

The old “let them eat cake argument”.

People can’t provide for themselves when the minimum wage is $7.50 per hour. Less withholding and health insurance.

"It is now up to the House and Senate to defend their power."

The House and The Senate are also Pro-USA right now.

It's all hands-on deck to save the Republic.

Stop burying my stuff at the bottom of the page. There are 20 slots so I should be there 5% of the time and NOT one out of every four(25%) . This has been addressed in the past. At times right after posting I’ll be at slot 1,2,3 on the next page and come back later and now it’s on the bottom

USAID is a creation of statute and Congress. USAID was created under the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961, and later by act of Congress (The Foreign Affairs Reform and Restructuring Act of 1998, 22 U.S.C. 6501 et seq.) established USAID as its own agency. In a section titled “Status of AID” (22 U.S.C. 6563) it states:

Social Security and Medicaid are also creatures of Statute.

So, if Trump can destroy and gut USAID why not any other federal agency? Why not dissolve and gut Social Security, Medicaid or Medicare? He has the power according to MAGAs.

For all the MAGA who answer, "Well Trump said he won't," remember Trump also said he knew nothing of Project 2025 which he is following to a tee.

Be careful what you wish for.

Based on certain comments below I am only asking a question why couldn't Trump gut and dissolve Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare by EO just like he did with USAID, another independent federal agency..not that he would gut them...not yet anyway ;)

He's not doing away with US Aid, he's rolling it into the responsibility of the SOS. USAID leadership thought they were unaccountable, so they got fired.

No one is going to storm the barricades over funding to teach muslim terrorists how to wear a condom

But cutting off SS would be serious and very different
It’s amazing how efficient right wing disinformation is.

It’s sad how little you care.

He has repeatedly said not to touch SS. Why are you proposing something that will never happen? You guys have never done anything more than spreading fear.

Trump will never ever destroy his own businesses or Musk's. lol. :)

👉 Trump's executive orders are likely to have several significant impacts on Social Security recipients:

1. Potential Payroll Tax Cuts: Trump's proposals include cutting payroll taxes, which could reduce the funding available for Social Security. While this might increase take-home pay for workers in the short term, it raises concerns about the long-term sustainability of Social Security benefits, as the program relies on these taxes for funding [1].

2. Staffing Shortages at SSA: Trump's plan to offer federal workers a buyout option could exacerbate existing staffing shortages at the Social Security Administration (SSA). This reduction in personnel may lead to longer wait times for processing applications and benefits, making it more difficult for seniors and individuals with disabilities to receive timely assistance [2].

3. Funding Freeze Clarifications: Although an initial freeze on federal grants and loans was announced, guidance clarified that Social Security and Medicare programs are exempt from this freeze. This means that direct benefits to Americans, including Social Security payments, should continue without interruption [3][5]. However, any confusion or delays in federal assistance could still cause anxiety among recipients.

4. Impact on Service Delivery: With the SSA already facing challenges in meeting service demands due to low staffing levels, any further cuts or staffing reductions could lead to significant delays in benefit processing. This situation is particularly concerning as the number of beneficiaries is expected to rise with an aging population [2].

In summary, while Trump's executive orders may not directly cut Social Security benefits, they could indirectly affect recipients through potential tax cuts impacting funding, increased wait times due to staffing shortages, and overall uncertainty surrounding federal assistance programs.

Trump can run SSA with fewer people.

I don't disagree. He may or may not try to dissolve or gut social security. Who knows? I merely raised the question. That is not to say some future president may not try to gut it or some other independent federal agency. A precedent has been set.
You do know USAID was created by an EO?

No, you MAGA are in denial. You back Trump on using EOs to gut USAID, but now are afraid to admit he can do the same with any independent agency he sets his sight on.
Unilaterally decide the military should be cut by 80%. Don't think a Bernie bro wouldn't.

Social security and medicare arec2 of the most successful programs ever created in the world. No need to ever get rid of them.

True. But USAID was created by JFK with an EO, which is why Trump can modify it with an EO.
Congress approves funding, but NOT where USAID sends the money, that is supposed to align with State department priorities, which is why USAID is now under Marco Rubio at State.

Apparently, you think Trump should have the unilateral power to gut a federal agency and that includes SS. Read Project 2025. The question I am raising is does he have the power?
But America voted for Project 2025. The Dems said that’s what was on the ballot, remember?
