So here's what the Americans make of our beloved sport...

While we take the speed, skill and passion for granted, most Americans were amazed by the sport, especially when hearing it's played by amateur athletes.

Watch The FULL Hurling Profile From The US Show '60 Minutes' - Lovin Dublin

I have only in the last year, started listening to 60 minutes. While some of the reporters of the show actually attempt to be impartial and balanced, some are nut jobs. Worst in my book, Lesley Stahl. If she comes on, just assume you are getting her specific opinionated version of the story.

That said... I'm always skeptical of any sport in which you get a dozen or more men, in a confined area, all armed with blunt weapons.

That just.... scares me, unless of course the goal is to harm the other.... in which case, I'm no longer scared, but assume this is Darwin Evolution being imposed by 'sport'.

The fact it's Amateur only is interesting.

Certainly with thousands of screaming fans, there has to be a profit motive involved, which would push for a profession game.

So could you explain what keeps it amateur? How do you prevent a professional league from being created?

There are very few injuries in Hurling, compared with Rugby or American Football. Concussions are not an issue in Hurling.

In the US only girls play field hockey

Field hockey, hurling ain't no field hockey! Although chicks do play hurling, the female version is called Camogie.

Camogie (/kɑːmɔːɡiː/; Irish: camógaíocht; formerly spelt camoguidheacht) is an Irish stick-and-ball team sport played by women; it is almost identical to the game of hurling played by men. Camogie is played by 100,000 women in Ireland and worldwide, largely among Irish communities.

If it looks like a duck.......

Hurling, lacrosse, field hockey and now camogie, pretty much look the same and maybe in 20-30 years one might catch on but Americans like the big three.

This is the best sport to come out of Ireland. The Ulster Grand Prix.
